This article will guide you through the process of setting up a Gmail account, the email service provided by Google. You can create your Gmail account using both mobile devices and computers.
Steps
On a computer

Go to the Gmail account creation page. Access https://www.google.com/gmail/about/# using your web browser to open the page with all information related to Gmail.

Click on CREATE AN ACCOUNT (CREATE ACCOUNT). This red button located in the upper-right corner will take you to the first page of the account creation process.

Enter your first and last name. Type your first name into the "First name" field near the top of the page, then enter your last name into the "Last name" field right beside it.

Create your username. In the "Username" field, enter the desired username for your email address. This name will appear before the "@gmail.com" part of your email address.
- If the username you select is already taken by someone else, you will be prompted to choose a different one after selecting a field on the page.

Enter your password twice. Type the password you've chosen in the "Password" field near the bottom of the page, then re-enter the same password in the "Confirm password" field next to it.
- Both passwords must match in order to proceed with the registration.

Click on NEXT (NEXT). This blue button at the bottom of the page will proceed you to the next step.

Enter your account recovery options. This step is optional, but you can provide two recovery methods for your Gmail account:
- Phone number - Enter your phone number in the 'Phone Number' field near the top of the page.
- Recovery email address - Enter an alternative email address in the 'Recovery Email Address' field near the top of the page.

Provide your birthdate. Click on 'Month' to select your birth month, then enter the day and year in the 'Day' and 'Year' fields respectively.

Select your gender. Click on 'Gender' and choose the appropriate option from the list that appears.

Click NEXT (CONTINUE). This is the blue button located at the bottom of the page.

Verify your phone number. If you are using a phone number for account recovery, you can confirm it right away by following these steps:
- Click SEND when prompted.
- Open the messaging app on your phone.
- Locate the message from Google (usually sent from a 5-digit number) and find the 6-digit code in the message content.
- Enter the 6 digits into the appropriate field on the Gmail page.
- Click VERIFY.
- You can also click Not now if you prefer to skip the recovery confirmation step at this time.

Scroll down and click I AGREE (I AGREE). This blue button, located below the terms of service on the left side of the page, accepts the terms and finalizes the Gmail account creation process.
On your mobile device
Download the Gmail app.

Google Play Store- On iPhone - tap Search, then tap the search bar at the top of the screen, type gmail, select gmail from the list that appears, press GET next to the "Gmail - Email by Google" app, and enter your Apple ID password or use Touch ID.
- On Android - Tap the search bar at the top of the screen, type gmail, select Gmail from the displayed options, press INSTALL, and then select ACCEPT.
- Skip this step if Gmail is already installed on your phone.

Open Gmail. Tap OPEN in your app store or click the red-and-white Gmail icon. This will open the login page if you’re not logged into an account on your phone.
- If you’re already signed into a Gmail account, tap ☰ in the upper left corner, select your current email address, then tap Manage accounts, followed by Add account, and choose Google to skip the next two steps.

Tap SIGN IN at the bottom of the screen.
- If another account is already logged in, tap ☰ in the upper left corner, tap your profile picture, select + Add account, and choose Google from the options above.

Tap More options on the left side of the screen to open a menu.
- If there are accounts not yet logged in, first select Use another account from the screen.

Tap Create account. This is the only option available on the current page.
- If you’ve previously signed into Gmail, this option will appear in the middle of the screen, rather than in the menu.

Enter your first and last name. In the "First name" field, type your first name, followed by your last name in the "Last name" field.

Click on NEXT (CONTINUE). This is the blue button on the right side of the page.

Provide your birthdate and gender. Select your birth month, followed by the day and year of your birth. Then, choose your gender from the options in the Gender field.

Click on NEXT (CONTINUE).

Create a username. Type the name you'd like for your Gmail account in the "Username" field. This will appear before "@gmail.com" in your email address.
- Your chosen username must be unique. If someone else has already taken it, you will be prompted to pick another one.

Select NEXT (CONTINUE).

Create a password. Type your password in the "Create password" field, and then re-enter it in the "Confirm password" field to verify it.

Select NEXT (CONTINUE).

Enter your phone number. Fill in your phone number in the "Phone number" field. Make sure it is a number where you can receive messages.
- If you see the option Skip (Skip) on the left of the page, you have the choice to skip entering your phone number.

Verify your phone number. When prompted, click on VERIFY (VERIFY), then open the message from Google, locate the 6-digit code provided, enter it in the "Enter code" field, and click NEXT (CONTINUE).
- If you skipped the phone number step earlier by selecting Skip (Skip), you can bypass this step.

Scroll down and click the I AGREE button in the lower-right corner of your screen.

Click on the NEXT button, and your new Gmail inbox will appear. You can now add contacts, organize your emails, and perform other actions.
- With your Gmail account, you can log into various services such as YouTube, Google Drive, and Google Docs.

- Gmail is pre-installed on most Android phones since you need a Google account to access the services on your Android device.

- You should ensure that your password is easy to remember but hard to guess when creating your Gmail account.
