This guide will walk you through the process of setting up a Skype account on both your computer and mobile app. If you already possess a Microsoft account, you can use it to log into Skype effortlessly.
Steps
On a Computer

Open the Skype information page. Visit https://www.skype.com/en/ to access Skype's homepage.

Click on Sign in (Login) located at the top right corner of the page to open the options menu.

Click on the Sign up (Register) link below the options menu, next to the text "New to Skype?" (Don't have a Skype account?).

Enter your phone number. Type your phone number into the "Phone number" field.
- Alternatively, you can click on Use your email instead to input your email address at this step.

Create a password. Enter a strong yet memorable password in the "Create password" field.

Click the Next (Continue) button in blue near the bottom of the page.

Enter your first and last name. Fill in the "First name" and "Last name" fields with your respective details.

Click on Next (Continue).

Select your country or region. Click on the "Country/region" dropdown and choose your current location.
- Skype usually auto-detects this based on your browser's location.

Add your date of birth. Choose your birth month, day, and year from the Month, Day, and Year dropdowns.

Click on Next (Continue).

Verify your account. Enter the code sent by Skype to your phone or email in the field provided on the page. You can receive the code in the following ways:
- Text - Open your messaging app, locate the message from Skype, and find the 4-digit code within the message.
- Email - Open your email inbox, find the email from "Microsoft account team," and look for the bold 4-digit code in the email content.

Click on Next (Continue). This will submit the code and create your Skype account. You can use this account to log in to Skype on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.
- If Skype asks you to enter another code displayed on the screen, follow the instructions and then click Next (Continue) to complete the account creation process.
On Mobile

Open Skype. Tap on the Skype app with the blue "S" logo on a white background.
- If you haven't downloaded the Skype app yet, you can get it for free from the iPhone App Store or Android Google Play Store.

Select Create Account (Create Account) near the bottom of the screen to proceed to the Skype registration page.
- If you're logged into another Skype account, tap on your profile picture or the ☰ icon and choose Sign out (Sign out) before continuing.

Enter your phone number. Type your phone number into the field provided in the middle of the screen.
- If you prefer to use an email address, tap on Use your email instead below the Back button, then enter your email address.
- However, you will still need to add a phone number before you can use Skype.

Click the blue Next (Continue) button near the bottom of the screen.

Create a password. In the "Create a password" field, enter the password you want to use for your Skype account.

Select Next (Continue).

Enter your first and last name. Fill in the "First name" and "Last name" fields with your respective details.

Select Next (Continue).

Choose your date of birth. Tap on the "Month" dropdown and select your birth month, then repeat the process for the "Day" and "Year" fields.

Click Next (Continue).

Verify your account. Depending on whether you registered with a phone number or email, this step will vary:
- Text - Open your messaging app, locate the message from Skype, and enter the 4-digit code into the "Enter code" field.
- Email - Open your email inbox, find the email titled "Verify your email address" from "Microsoft account team," and enter the bold 4-digit code into the "Enter code" field.

Click Next (Continue). This will confirm your phone number or email and create your Skype account. The Skype app settings page will appear immediately after this step.
- If you didn't register with a phone number, you'll be prompted to add and verify a phone number before proceeding.

Adjust Skype app settings. You can choose Skip in the top right corner until you reach the home screen to start using Skype; alternatively, you can set up the app by following these steps:
- Choose the app theme (Light or Dark).
- Tap → twice.
- Allow Skype to access your contacts by selecting OK or Allow when prompted.
- Tap → once more if necessary.

- To log into Skype, you must download the software/app on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.
