This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to create your own subreddit on Reddit.com. A subreddit is a dedicated section of the Reddit online forum that focuses on a specific topic.
Steps
Access https://www.reddit.com using your web browser. If you are not logged into your Reddit account, click on LOG IN near the top of the page to do so. If you are not yet a member of the Reddit community, click on SIGN UP near the top right corner to create an account now. To create a subreddit, your account must meet the following requirements: it must be at least 30 days old, and you must have a positive karma score (meaning your posts have received a significant number of upvotes). The specific karma requirements are kept confidential to prevent spam on the platform.
Click on CREATE COMMUNITY. This button is located at the top of the rightmost column on the Reddit homepage. If you have reverted to the old version of Reddit, click on Create your own subreddit.
Enter the details for your subreddit. On this page, you can customize the subreddit's name, background color, description, and more. These elements are entirely yours, so feel free to personalize them as you see fit.
- Name: This will form part of the subreddit's web address. For example, if you name your subreddit 'Mytour,' its address will be https://reddit.com/r/Mytour. The name cannot be changed later, must not contain spaces, and should not be a registered trademark.
- Title: This will appear at the top of your subreddit.
- Description: Use this section to explain the purpose of your subreddit.
- Sidebar: Input any text or links you want to display on the right-hand side of your subreddit.
- Submission text: Add any instructions or messages you want users to see when they create a new post in your subreddit.
- Other preferences: Explore additional options like color schemes, reader requirements, post types, and language settings. Choose the options that best suit your needs.
Click on create. This button is located at the bottom of the page. Your subreddit is now created and ready to use.

- Strive to make your subreddit unique and engaging. Research similar subreddits before creating your own to ensure it stands out.
- If you no longer need a subreddit, consider posting it on r/adoptareddit for others to take over.
