You can use popular web browsers to create shortcuts to websites on your computer. These shortcuts allow you to quickly access specific web pages with ease.
Steps
Using Internet Explorer or Firefox

Open your web browser. This method works for both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
- If you're using Microsoft Edge, you need to open Internet Explorer instead, as Edge doesn't support this feature.
- Regardless of your default browser, when you double-click on the shortcut, the webpage will typically open in the browser you used to create the shortcut.

Access the website you want to create a shortcut for. Open the exact page you wish to create the shortcut for. You can create a shortcut for any website, but you will need to log in if the website requires it regularly.

Ensure you're not using full-screen mode in your browser. You need to see your desktop screen for easier operation.

Click the site icon in the address bar and drag it. You'll notice the website's icon becomes slightly translucent as you move it along with the cursor.

Drop the icon onto your desktop. The shortcut, named after the webpage title, will appear on the desktop. The shortcut may also display the website's icon (if available).

Double-click the shortcut. If you created the shortcut using Internet Explorer, the webpage will always open in Internet Explorer. However, if you created it using Firefox, the site will open in your default browser.
Using Chrome (Windows)

Open the website using the Chrome browser on a Windows operating system. In Chrome, you can use customized website icons (favicons: small images that appear before the title of a website in the browser's address bar). This feature is currently unavailable on Mac computers.

Click the options button (⋮) at the top-right corner of the Chrome window.

Select "More tools" → "Add to desktop". A new window will pop up.
- If you don't see this option, your current version might be outdated. Go to "Help" → "About Google Chrome" in the menu and update to the latest version available.

Name the shortcut. By default, the shortcut will match the title of the webpage. However, you can change the name as you prefer.

Choose to open in a separate window or not. If you check the 'Open as window' box, the shortcut will always open in a standalone window, resembling an application. This feature is especially handy for shortcuts to services like Gmail or messaging apps like WhatsApp.

Click on 'Add' to create a shortcut on your desktop. A new icon, similar to the site's favicon, will appear on your desktop screen.

Double-click the shortcut to open it. If you do not enable the 'Open as window' option, the shortcut will open in a regular Chrome browser window. If you select 'Open as window,' the page will open in a separate window, distinct from the usual Chrome interface.
Create a shortcut (macOS)

Open any web browser. You can create a shortcut to a website using any web browser, such as Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.

Visit the website you want to create a shortcut for. You can create a shortcut to any part of the website, but for pages that require a login, you will still need to sign in when using the shortcut.

Click on the address bar. The full address along with the page icon will appear.

Click the icon and drag your mouse. You will see both the icon and the address move along with the cursor. Be sure to click and drag the icon itself, not just the address line.

Drop the icon onto your desktop. A shortcut with the same name as the webpage title will be created.

Double-click the shortcut to open it. The website will open in your default web browser.
Add a website to the Dashboard (macOS)

Open Safari browser. You will need to use Safari to add parts of a website to the Dashboard (a screen with small widgets), which makes it easy to keep tabs with important content readily accessible.

Navigate to the website you wish to add to the Dashboard. You can add anything from a small section to the entire website, but it will only be available in a static view (meaning no scrolling).

Click on the 'File' menu and select 'Open in Dashboard.' The website will dim, and your cursor will change into a frame for you to define the area you want to save from the page.

Click on the location where you want to place the frame on the page. The content within the frame will appear in the Dashboard. Place the frame where you are certain the content you want to keep will be visible.

Drag the corners to resize the frame. You can adjust the frame size freely within the boundaries of the window.

Click the 'Add' button to include a selection to your Dashboard. The dashboard screen will appear with a snapshot of the website. You can click and drag the shortcut to reposition it on the Dashboard screen.

Open the dashboard to view the snapshot. You can launch the Dashboard from the Launchpad app in the dock.

Click on the links within the snapshot to open them. The links you click will open directly in Safari. For example, on a snapshot of a forum's homepage, clicking a topic link will open that specific topic in Safari.
Set a website as your desktop background (Windows)

Download WallpaperWebPage. This free program allows you to set your desktop background as a dynamic webpage. Although it has its limitations (such as hiding your icons), it remains one of the few remaining options since dynamic wallpaper support has been discontinued in Windows.
- You can download WallpaperWebPage for free at softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Other-Desktop-Enhancements/WallpaperWebPage.shtml

Right-click on the downloaded file and select "Extract All" (Extract All). The installation files will be extracted to a new folder labeled "WallpaperWebPage" within your Downloads folder.

Run the setup file. Open the new folder and run the setup.exe file.

Enter the website address you'd like to set as your wallpaper. Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to select your desired website. You can either type or paste the URL into the provided field.

Right-click on the WallpaperWebPage icon, featuring the Earth, located in the system tray. A small menu will appear.

Select "Configure" to enter a new website. You can use this options panel to change your background website whenever you wish.

Choose "Autostart" to have your background automatically load every time Windows starts, ensuring the website background is visible even after restarting your computer.

Click the "Show Desktop" button located to the right of the system tray. This will display your desktop icons and the original background. Alternatively, you can press ⊞ Win+D. Press the key combination again to return to the website background.

Right-click on the WallpaperWebPage icon and select exit from the menu to close the application. The website background will close, returning you to the standard desktop screen.
