This article will guide you through the process of creating a YouTube account. You can easily do this by accessing YouTube from your computer or mobile device. Since YouTube and Google share the same login information, if you already have a Gmail or any other Google account, you automatically have a YouTube account as well. You can also create a new YouTube account with any email address on the YouTube website via your computer or by signing up for a new Gmail account through the YouTube mobile app.
Steps
On a Computer
Open YouTube. Go to https://www.youtube.com/ on your browser to visit YouTube's homepage.
Click on SIGN IN (Login). If you are not logged into your Google account in your browser, click this option at the top-right corner of YouTube's homepage.
- If you're already logged into your Google account, you are automatically signed into YouTube, and no further action is required. You can begin using YouTube immediately!
Click on Create Account (Create New Account) at the bottom-left corner of the login page to open the new account creation form.
Fill out the Google account creation form. Enter the following information:
- First name – Enter your first name in the appropriate field.
- Last name – Enter your last name in the appropriate field.
- Your email address – Provide a working email address you use. You don’t have to use a Gmail account.
- Password – Create a password you will use to log in.
- Confirm password – Re-enter the same password you just typed.
Click on NEXT (Continue) at the bottom of the page.
Receive a verification code for your email address as follows:
- Open your email inbox and sign in if necessary.
- Click on the email titled "Verify your email address" sent by Google.
- Note the six-digit code in the body of the email.
Enter the verification code. Type the six-digit code from the email into the field in the center of the Google account creation page.
Click on VERIFY (Verify) below the code entry field.
Enter your birthdate and gender. Select your birthdate, then click the "Gender" dropdown to choose your gender.
- You may also add your phone number, though it's optional.
Click on NEXT (Continue) at the bottom of the page.
Scroll down and click on I AGREE (I Agree) at the end of the terms list. This will create your Google account, enabling you to sign in and return to the YouTube page.
On mobile
Open YouTube. Tap the YouTube app, which has a white triangle icon on a red background.
Tap the "Profile" icon in the top-right corner of the screen to open the options menu.
Tap SIGN IN in the options menu to open a new menu.
- If you're already signed into a YouTube account, select Switch account at this step.
Tap Add account near the bottom of the menu.
- On Android, tap the ＋ icon in the top-right corner of the menu.
Tap the Create account at the bottom of the screen.
Enter your first and last name. Type your first name in the "First name" field, then your last name in the "Last name" field.
Tap the blue NEXT button at the bottom of the page.
Fill in your birthdate and gender. Select your birthdate (day, month, year), then tap the "Gender" option to select your gender.
Tap NEXT to proceed.
Create a Gmail username. You can't use a non-Gmail address to create a Google account on YouTube. Therefore, you need to set up a new Gmail account by entering any name you'd like to use as your Gmail username in the 'Username' field.
- For example, by typing 'iamabanana' here, your Gmail address will be '[email protected]'.
- When creating a YouTube account on your phone, you must create a Gmail account instead of using another email address. If you'd prefer to use a non-Gmail address, you should visit the YouTube website to set up your account there.
Tap on NEXT (Continue).
Enter your password twice. Type the password you'd like to use in the 'Create password' field, then re-enter the same password in the 'Confirm password' field.
Tap on NEXT.
Scroll down and select SKIP (Skip) at the bottom of the page.
Scroll down and select I AGREE (I agree) at the end of the YouTube terms and conditions list.
Tap on NEXT to create your account, log in, and access YouTube using your personal account.
