Comforting and cozy ways to cuddle in bed or on the couch
If you're feeling a bit anxious, stressed, or just want to reconnect with your partner, snuggling can be the perfect remedy. There’s no universal 'right' or 'wrong' way to cuddle, but there are some time-tested positions that always do the trick. Browse through our selection of cuddle positions and pick the ones that feel just right for your next intimate moment.
How to Get Started
The Spooning Position

In this position, both you and your partner lie on your sides, facing the same direction. If you're the 'big spoon,' your stomach rests against your partner’s back while your arms wrap around them. As the 'little spoon,' you snuggle up by pressing your back against your partner’s stomach, allowing them to hold you close.
- This classic cuddling position is intuitive and comforting. The big spoon feels protective, while the little spoon enjoys a sense of security and affection.
- Usually, the taller partner takes the role of the big spoon, but feel free to swap roles and enjoy it in whichever way works best for you!
The Half-Spoon Position

One partner lies on their back, while the other lies on their side. This cuddle position offers a similar sense of closeness to spooning, but it's perfect if you're feeling a bit warm. One person lies flat on their back, and the other curls into the curve of their arm. The partner on their side can place their free arm gently across the other's chest.
- This position creates a comforting feeling of being gently cradled, which is very calming.
The Honeymoon Hug

Lie facing your partner with your arms and legs intertwined. This position is perfect for snuggling while still being able to engage in conversation. Lie on the bed and let your arms and legs naturally tangle together with your partner’s. Position yourselves close enough to gaze into each other’s eyes, whether you're chatting or drifting off to sleep.
- This is an ideal choice if you want to share a few words or enjoy a sweet kiss before bed.
The Arm Overlap

Face your partner and gently drape one arm over theirs. Much like the honeymoon hug, this is a wonderful snuggling position for light conversation or quick kisses. Lie on your side, facing your partner, and softly rest your arm on top of theirs. You can then draw them closer or shift away a little if needed.
- This position is perfect for those who tend to get warm under the covers, as your legs remain free.
The Back-to-Back Position

Turn away from each other with your lower backs gently touching. This is ideal for those moments when you both want to roll over in bed but still crave a sense of closeness. Lie on opposite sides of the bed, facing away from each other, but stay close enough that your backs and buttocks touch. You can even stretch out your legs and play footsie until you both drift off to sleep.
- If you love snuggling but need a little space to fall asleep, this is the perfect cuddle position for you.
The Cradle Position

Have your partner lie on their back, and rest your head on their chest. If either of you is in need of nurturing, the cradle position is a great choice. With your partner lying on their back, rest your head gently on their chest, and let your arm drape over their stomach. You’ll hear their heartbeat and feel their slow breaths as you both drift into sleep.
- This position enhances intimacy and strengthens the emotional bond between you both.
The Leg Hug Position

Lie comfortably and drape one leg over your partner’s. If you’re both ready for a peaceful night’s rest but still want to snuggle, get cozy in bed either on your back or stomach. Rest one leg across your partner's and let it stay there as you both fall asleep.
- You might need to shift positions if your leg or your partner’s leg becomes uncomfortable, but that’s a problem for later!
The Butt Pillow Position

Use your partner’s rear as a soft pillow for your head. If you want to feel close but prefer less eye contact, or if you simply enjoy the comfort of your partner’s backside, this is the position for you. Have your partner lie on their stomach and scoot down just enough for you to rest your head on their behind like a cushion.
The Lap Pillow Position

Rest your partner's head on your lap while sitting on the couch. Want to stay close to your partner while watching TV or chatting with friends? This is the perfect snuggling position. One person sits cross-legged, while the other rests their head in their lap.
- Feel free to play with your partner’s hair or gently massage their head while they relax in your lap (as long as they're comfortable with it, of course).
The Sitting Snuggle Position

Sit next to each other with one person's legs across the other's lap. Want to cuddle while watching a movie? No problem! Sit next to your partner and get cozy, then swing their legs onto your lap (or vice versa). They’ll angle their body toward yours, so you can still chat, and you’ll be close enough for kisses or more intimate moments to feel natural.
The Lounge Chair Position

Lean back into your partner while sitting on a couch. This position is perfect for watching a movie together at home. Have your partner sit up straight, and then gently settle yourself into their lap, facing away from them. Lean back against their stomach as they wrap their arms around you, pulling you closer.
- This snuggling position will provide a sense of security and comfort.

Snuggling can be enjoyable, but like anything, it may take a little practice. Don’t hesitate to express what you enjoy to your partner, and be open to their feedback as well!
