A curse is a magical incantation cast upon someone with the intent to harm them in a specific way. The effects can range from causing mere annoyance and psychological stress to illness, suffering, and even death. Curses are often associated with magic, and thus should not be taken lightly. The cursed jar (a variant of a spell-in-a-bottle) is a simple cursing method that users believe has a high success rate.
Steps
Preparing the Curse

Understand the possible consequences. If the curse proves effective, it can significantly impact the target's life, potentially even leading to death. However, it's important to note that many people do not believe in magic or the effectiveness of curses, and there is very little scientific evidence to support their validity.
- Studies have shown that people who believe they are cursed and feel powerless to counteract it may experience significant distress, leading to a drop in blood pressure and potentially death.

Note that the curse can backfire. Witches often believe that curses go against moral principles, and as a result, they will come back to the person casting them in a manner similar to how they were originally performed. If you curse someone, you should be prepared to face misfortune yourself.
- A common concept in the realm of magic refers to the psychological state of 'what you sow is what you reap': this means that whether your actions are good or bad, they will come back to you threefold.
- Few are aware of the psychological toll that the person casting the curse may suffer when they successfully harm their target. If you curse someone, you may experience intense psychological stress that you cannot even imagine at the time.

Consider forgiveness and moving on. Reflect on why you want revenge, and whether the act is worth the time and effort you'll invest. Perhaps your time and energy should be used to continue living rather than dwelling in negative emotions that will only make you feel worse.
- By spending your time seeking revenge instead of moving forward, you are wasting valuable moments that could be spent improving your life. The person who harmed you may deserve misfortune, but they certainly don't deserve to occupy your mind for so long.
- Studies have shown that revenge actually makes us feel worse. Experts believe the reason for this could be that the act of vengeance exaggerates the situation, while the matter would be less serious if you let go of seeking revenge.

Set an intention. If you decide to curse, you should sit down and carefully think about what you want to happen. Being clear about what you hope will occur during each step of the curse will result in a more effective outcome.

Protect yourself. Before cursing another person, you should protect yourself with a protective spell and/or talisman. If the target of your curse also uses magic, the curse may backfire on you.
Gather tools

Prepare the glass jar. A large and wide pickling jar is suitable, but you can use any other glass jar of similar size.

Prepare the effigy. An effigy is generally understood as a doll resembling the person you're cursing. In practice, it can be anything that symbolizes the target, including photographs, hair, or even a piece of paper with their name written on it.
- If you gather hair or nail clippings from the target, ensure that this act is not discovered—it's usually best to take them from the trash. Failing to do so could cause trouble not only with the person but also with authorities.
- If you use an image of the target, write their name clearly on the photo with red or black ink. Additionally, write their name on a piece of paper using red or black ink.
- If you opt for writing the target’s name and placing it in the jar, use a name other than their official one. For instance, if the target's full name is Trần Hoàng An but they typically go by Trần An, you should use 'Trần An.' You can even use their online nickname if you're familiar with it.

Gather items to use as intermediaries. The term 'intermediary' can have several meanings, but in this case, it refers to an object through which you will channel negative energy (such as a curse). One of the following items will serve as an effective intermediary:
- Rusty nails, staples, or other sharp objects can be placed inside the jar to cause harm to the target.
- A red chili pepper or red pepper will make the target angry.
- Vinegar can be used to make the target’s life worse or to sour a relationship between you and the target.
- Rose thorns can be used to deceive the target (since roses look soft until they prick your finger) or to sour a romantic relationship.
- Matches can be added to the jar with the paper to burn the curse every time you shake or move the jar.
- Poisonous plants can be added to the jar to harm the target. Just make sure to wear protective gear (such as gloves, goggles, or a mask) when handling anything toxic.
- Your own urine can be added to the jar to enhance your control over the target. Avoid using urine or blood from others, as these are hazardous biological materials and could make you ill.
- Cemetery soil can be used to ward off someone or separate two people. Soil from a new grave is most effective, though authorities consider this disrespectful.
- If you decide to dig up soil from a new grave, ask permission from the deceased and offer a gift, such as alcohol (e.g., pour wine on the ground), food (e.g., a portion of your meal), or money (even real money).
- Note that you don't need to put all of these items in the jar. One or two items will suffice!
Assemble the curse jar

Clean the jar. Use hot soapy water to clean the jar, scraping off any labels or adhesive. To avoid water streaks or lint from towels getting inside, you may let the jar air dry naturally.

Remind yourself of your intention. As you place items into the curse jar, focus on the target and what you wish to happen to them.

Place the effigy in the jar. If you're using a doll and have obtained hair from the target, you can wrap the hair around the doll’s neck.

Add the intermediary items to the jar on top of the effigy. Remember to focus on your goal as you do this. If you don't have a specific wish, simply think about how angry you are and how the actions of the target deserve to invoke this anger.

Seal the jar. Before sealing the jar, make sure you don’t need to add anything else. Once sealed, avoid opening the jar as doing so will nullify its power.

Seal the jar with wax (optional). If you have a black or red candle, you can light it and drip the wax over the lid to completely seal it.
- For added effectiveness, you can use a pin or another sharp object to carve the target’s name into the candle before lighting it.

Shake the jar. Do this while continuing to focus on your anger towards the target. Remember, you are transferring negative energy and power into the jar.
- If you're using nails or staples, shake the jar gently to avoid breaking it.

Hide the jar in a dark place. You can hide the jar in your house, but it will be more effective if it’s placed closer to the target. If you decide to place it near the target, make sure to hide it well so it remains undetected.
- For example, you could bury the jar in the target's yard. If you do this, ensure no one sees you and bury it deep enough that others can’t find it.
- Keep the jar hidden but still easily retrievable if needed. You never know when you might change your mind and want to break the curse later.
- Another reason to hide the jar is that if someone finds and breaks it, the curse's dark energy could be turned back on you.

Be patient. The curse may take several days or even months to take effect. If too much time has passed and it seems ineffective, the target may be protected by a protective spell or charm.
- If the target has magical protection, consider whether it’s worth continuing to cast the curse, as breaking the protection could take a significant amount of time and effort.
- Your curse may have affected someone close to the target instead of the target themselves. Before concluding that the curse didn't work, consider this possibility.
Use psychology to enhance the curse

Skip the curse jar (optional). If you lack the time, resources, or interest in creating a curse jar, you can use psychology to make the target believe they are cursed.
- Simply intimidate the target with words or a menacing look, or make small disruptions in their everyday life, and you will achieve the desired effect.
- However, it’s important to note that your energy should be focused on improving your own situation, rather than making someone else’s life more difficult. The saying “Living well is the best revenge” applies here.

Threaten the target. The more the target believes they are cursed, the more powerful your curse becomes. In addition to using the jar, you can unsettle them by letting them catch you glaring at them with malicious intent or saying things that make them anxious.
- If you're unsure about what to say to genuinely scare the target, use a menacing look. The key is for them to realize that you've placed a curse on them and that they are fearful of it.

Act cautiously. If the target is someone who physically bullies you, avoid making eye contact or speaking to them, as this could compromise your safety.

Use the 'nocebo' effect. Studies have shown that the placebo effect can improve people's self-image. You can leverage this knowledge for negative results.
- Common things to say to negatively influence the body’s functions include (but are not limited to) sleep (“You’ll never sleep peacefully again”) and touch (“You’ll ruin everything you touch”).

Don’t be too specific. When cursing the target in person, avoid going into details. This way, the target will associate any relevant event with the curse, strengthening its effect.
- For example, if you say, “You’ll ruin everything you touch,” and then a few days later they drop a cup or trip while tying their shoes, they will recall your curse.
- As the target becomes more anxious, the curse’s power will grow. They will inadvertently make the curse come true, and all you’ve done is plant the thought in their mind.

Monitor the target regularly. Studies show that individuals under constant surveillance tend to behave more erratically than those who are not monitored. This requires time and effort, as you'll need to consistently disturb them.
- You don’t even need to be overtly petty. Simply offering them advice – literally – and constantly asking what they’re doing will make them distracted and more prone to mistakes.
- You don’t have to do this directly. Instead, you can message them on Facebook or email them regularly. Using every available medium to consistently nudge and offer advice within a short period will have a negative effect on them.
Breaking the Curse

Protect yourself. If you break the curse without protecting yourself, the curse may backfire. Before smashing the jar (and releasing the curse), make sure you are protected with a protective spell, a talisman, or at the very least, some form of magical herb.

Retrieve the jar from its hiding place. If the jar is hidden outside your house, make sure no one sees you retrieving it, especially the target of the curse.

Smash the jar. The safest and easiest way to do this is to place the jar inside a paper bag, seal it shut, and gently hit it with a hammer.
- If the jar contains liquid, place it in the paper bag and then wrap it in a plastic bag before smashing it.

Dispose of the jar. After smashing the jar, securely seal the paper bag in a thick plastic bag before throwing it in the trash. Make sure to clean any liquid or broken glass from the bag during the smashing process.
Advice
- The most effective time to cast and break a curse is believed to be during the waning moon.
- Avoid cursing over trivial matters. Always think through the consequences and determine whether the target truly deserves to be cursed. Usually, they don’t.
- Rather than cursing others, focus your time and energy on casting a spell that benefits you, rather than harming others. For instance, you can try a spell that brings happiness or success.
- Note that there is little scientific evidence to prove that curses or magic related to this are truly effective. You may still use it as a ritual to address your own negative energy, but it’s better to move on, or if you face dangerous situations, seek help from a professional (e.g., a school counselor, the police, social services) to overcome the situation.
Warnings
- Research the legality of your actions before proceeding. Some acts might be considered blasphemous, offensive, or harassment. If that’s the case, it’s better not to go through with it.
- A curse might backfire. If it seems ineffective but causes you to suffer more than usual, you should break the curse as mentioned above.
- If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, you need to report it to the authorities. No evidence suggests that curses actually work, so you shouldn’t rely on one to remove someone dangerous from your life.
- If the person you cursed is also using magic, they may detect your actions and attempt to curse you back. First, protect yourself with a protective spell or amulet.
