This article will guide you through the process of bending text in Adobe Illustrator by using the Warp options in the Effects menu or the Type on a Path Tool on your desktop. Unfortunately, the Adobe Illustrator Draw app on mobile devices does not support the feature discussed in this article.
Steps
Using the Menu
Open your Illustrator project. You can do this by clicking the 'File' tab in Illustrator, or by searching for the file in your file explorer, right-clicking, and selecting 'Open With...' and then choosing 'Illustrator'. This is the easiest method on both Mac and Windows computers.
Select the text you want to curve. You can create new text by clicking on the text tool in the menu or pressing "T" on your keyboard.
Click on the Effect. This tab is located at the top of your project or at the top of the screen.
Hover over the Warp. A menu will appear on the right side of the screen.
Click on the Arc. A window will pop up.
- Check the box next to "Preview" to see the changes while adjusting.
- Here, you can adjust the percentage to control the curvature of the text. The default settings only create a basic curved text effect.
Click OK to apply the settings. If you checked the "Preview" box, you will see the curved text exactly as per the settings chosen in the dialog box.
Using the Type on a Path Tool
Open your Illustrator project. You can do this by clicking the 'File' tab in Illustrator or by searching for the file in your file explorer, right-clicking, selecting 'Open With...', and choosing 'Illustrator'. This method works on both Mac and Windows computers.
Draw a circle or another shape using the Ellipse Tool. This tool is found in the menu. You can also press "L" to select the Ellipse Tool.
- Click and drag the mouse on the screen to create a circle.
Click and hold the text tool in the menu. A set of text tool options will appear next to it.
Select the Type on a Path Tool. This option is usually the third in the list.
Click on the circle to activate the cursor. As you type, the text will surround the circle. Although this guide focuses on writing text along a circle, you can write along any path.
- Click on the Direct Selection tool in the menu (it looks like a pointer arrow) to edit your text.
