- If you want Facebook to automatically reactivate your account in a week or less, click on This is temporary. I'll be back. and select the number of days for deactivation.

Click on the Close button if prompted for further actions. If Facebook determines that the reason you've selected can be corrected, you will see a pop-up message offering an alternative action (optional); clicking Close will dismiss the message.

Disable email notifications and/or Messenger if you'd like. Simply click on the boxes next to the options Opt out of receiving future emails from Facebook and Keep me signed into Messenger to disable them.

Click on the Deactivate button at the bottom of the page. Your account will be deactivated immediately.
- You may be asked to enter your password one more time before proceeding with deactivation.

Click the link "Deactivate your account" right below the Close button.

Enter your Facebook password in the input field located near the center of the page.
Click on the Continue. If the password is correct, you will be directed to the deactivation page.

Click on the reason for deactivation under the "Reason for leaving" section near the bottom of the page.
- If you want Facebook to automatically reactivate your account after one week or less, click This is temporary. I'll be back. and select the number of days to deactivate your account.

Click on Close if prompted to perform another action. Depending on your reason for leaving, Facebook may suggest logging out or adding friends instead of deactivating your account.

Review the exit options. Before deactivating your account, you can check or uncheck the following options:
- Email opt out – Check this box to stop Facebook from sending you emails.
- Messenger – Disable Facebook Messenger as well. If you leave this unchecked, people can still search for and message you through Messenger.
- Delete applications – If you're a Facebook developer with applications, they will be listed here. Checking this box will remove those applications from your developer profile.

Click the blue Deactivate button at the bottom of the page.
- After this step, you may be prompted to enter your password again.

Click on Deactivate Now (Deactivate Now). Your Facebook account will be locked. Whenever you wish to reactivate it, simply visit the Facebook login page, enter your email address and password, and click Log In.
Advice
- When deactivating your account, all information on your profile will be saved in case you decide to return.
Warning
- Only deactivate your account when absolutely necessary. If you do this too often, you may eventually be restricted from reactivating your account immediately.
- The only way to permanently remove sensitive data from Facebook's servers is to delete your account.
