Hair can become dry and damaged from the heat of styling tools, hair dye, chemical treatments, and sun exposure. You’ll want to restore your hair’s softness and strength with deep conditioning. When done correctly, it will leave your hair silky and healthy-looking!
Steps
Use Pre-made Hair Conditioning Cream

Choose the right product. Find a hair conditioning cream that’s suitable for your hair type. There are many products available on the market, and while all conditioning creams aim to restore moisture, choose one that addresses your specific needs.
- If you have frizzy hair, select a cream designed for frizzy hair.
- If your hair is healthy, choose a product labeled as "gentle" or "lightweight." Creams made from heavier oils can weigh your hair down.
- If you have curly hair, opt for a product that helps reduce curliness.

Shampoo your hair. Use a gentle shampoo that doesn’t dry out your hair. Avoid shampoos containing sulfates, as they are harsh cleansers that strip natural oils from your hair, causing it to become dry and brittle.

Apply the conditioning cream to your hair. Squeeze a small amount of conditioner into your hands and rub them together. Then, apply it to your hair, starting from the mid-length and working your way down to the ends. Afterward, apply any remaining product from the roots to the tips. Pay extra attention to the ends, as they tend to be drier than the rest of the hair. Use a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute the conditioner if needed.

Let the conditioner soak in. The deep conditioning process requires at least 10 minutes for the product to penetrate the core of each hair strand. Check the instructions on the product, as some conditioners may require more time, but typically the range is no more than 30 minutes. You may wear a shower cap to prevent the conditioner from dripping.

Apply heat. Some products require using a blow dryer to heat the product, making it penetrate the hair more easily. Use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to gently warm your hair and the conditioner.
- Do not use too high a heat setting, as it could cause the shower cap (if you’re using one) to melt.

Rinse the product out. Remove the shower cap and rinse your hair with cool water to help the hair shafts close, leaving your hair shiny. After rinsing, gently towel-dry your hair with a soft towel, let it air dry, and style as usual. Your hair will be voluminous, shiny, and moisturized.
- Wait a few days before shampooing again to prevent washing away the nourishing ingredients.

Allow the mixture to absorb into the hair. You can use a shower cap to cover your hair. If you want the deep conditioning cream to penetrate faster, you may use a blow dryer on low heat.

Rinse your hair thoroughly. Remove the shower cap and rinse your hair with cold water. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear and all the conditioner is washed out. Gently towel dry your hair and style as usual.
- Avoid using hot water as it may cause adverse reactions with eggs or mayonnaise.
- Wait a few days before washing your hair again to prevent the nourishing ingredients from washing away.
Condition the hair in a short time

Prepare your own deep conditioning treatment. Olive oil and honey make an excellent combination for nourishing hair in a short period, as honey moisturizes while olive oil helps the hair absorb it effectively. Mix ¼ cup of honey with ¼ cup of olive oil in a bowl.

Apply the deep conditioner. Damp hair first, then use a brush or your fingers to apply the honey and olive oil mixture. Massage the mixture thoroughly from the roots to the ends, focusing on the drier sections. You may cover your hair with a shower cap afterward.

Applying heat. As this is a method for quick hair conditioning, the most effective way to apply heat is by using a blow dryer. Set the blow dryer to medium heat and direct the airflow onto your hair for at least 10 minutes.
- Change the direction of the blow dryer to ensure the entire hair gets the heat treatment.

Wash the hair thoroughly. After about 10-30 minutes, remove the hair cap and rinse out the honey and olive oil mixture with cold water. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear. Gently pat dry your hair with a soft towel, then style as usual.
Tips
- Add a few drops of essential oils to your homemade hair mask to enhance its benefits with the oils' properties during the treatment.
- You can use other oils, such as almond oil, in place of olive oil.
- Condition your hair regularly if needed; once a week for dry, damaged hair, or a few times a year if your hair isn't severely damaged.
- If you have oily hair, avoid applying the mask to the roots or scalp, as this could leave your hair looking greasy.
- Don't spend a lot of money on expensive hair masks; compare the ingredients and choose a more affordable option with 4-5 key ingredients similar to those in premium hair masks.
