This guide will show you how to delete images you've sent via Facebook Messenger app or website. It's crucial to understand that you cannot remove the photos from the entire conversation – ‘Deleting a photo will make it disappear for you, but the other person will still see it.’ In some cases, these photos might still appear in the 'Shared Photos' section of the conversation, so you'll also need to delete the entire conversation to fully remove them.
Steps
Delete Photos on Mobile

Open Facebook Messenger. Tap on the Messenger app icon, which is a blue speech bubble with a white lightning bolt inside. You'll see a list of recent chats if you're logged in to Messenger.
- If you're not logged in, enter your phone number and password when prompted before proceeding.

Select a conversation. Tap on the conversation that contains the photo you want to delete. This will open the selected conversation.
- If Messenger opens to a page without any conversations, first tap the ‘’’Home’’’ tab at the bottom left of the screen (iPhone) or top left (Android).
- If Messenger opens to a conversation you don't need, tap the 'Back' button at the top left of the screen to return to the homepage.

Find the photo. Scroll up in the conversation until you locate the image you want to delete.
- You can also search for videos this way.

Tap and hold the photo. A menu will appear at the bottom of the screen (iPhone) or in the center of the screen (Android).

Tap Delete. This option is in the menu.

Tap Delete when the confirmation appears. This action will remove the photo, and it will no longer be visible to you, but ‘’’the other person will still see the photo normally unless they delete it themselves’’’.

Check the shared photos. When a photo is deleted from a conversation, it will also be removed from the “Shared Photos” section in the conversation settings. You can double-check to make sure.
- Tap on the name of the person you’re chatting with, located at the top of the conversation (iPhone) or the ⓘ icon at the top right corner of the screen (Android).
- Scroll down to the “Shared Photos” section.
- Look for the photo you deleted.
- If you find it, try closing and reopening Facebook Messenger to see if the photo has disappeared from the “Shared Photos” section. If it hasn’t, you may need to delete the entire conversation.
