Turning off the auto-save images and auto-download videos features on Zalo is a simple yet effective way to free up significant storage space on your phone or computer. Let's explore how to disable these features on Zalo, allowing you to save both network data and memory space!
1. What is the auto-download image feature?
Zalo – the leading messaging and calling social network in Vietnam – is widely used by many people. However, its cloud storage system is limited, which is a key weakness. To address this storage issue, Zalo has begun utilizing users' device memory for storing personal data. As a result, images, documents, videos, and messages are automatically backed up by users, rather than being saved to the cloud.
To prevent users from losing data due to forgetting to back up, Zalo has introduced the 'Auto-download images' feature. When enabled, this feature automatically downloads images and videos, storing them directly on the device. This ensures that users no longer have to worry about losing data, images, or videos while using Zalo. However, this feature has a major drawback, as it takes up more storage space on the device, causing Zalo’s storage usage to increase over time and slowing down the device.
To resolve this issue and free up storage on your phone, simply disable the auto-save and auto-download image features on Zalo.
2. How to completely turn off auto-saving images on Zalo for mobile
On the Zalo messaging app, if you want to free up space and completely disable the auto-save feature for images, you'll need to adjust settings. This configuration allows you to turn off the auto-save feature for images across 'all' chats on the mobile Zalo app.

Step 1: Open the Zalo app, go to Profile (1) ➨ Settings (2) ➨ Messages (3).
Step 2: Next, select the Auto-download feature and turn off Auto-download.
Step 3: After disabling the auto-download feature, you will receive the following notification.
“Nguy cơ mất dữ liệu nếu tắt tự động tải về: Video và file sẽ không truy cập được trừ khi bạn vào xem và tải về ngay khi nhận.”
Như vậy, nếu tắt tính năng tự động tải về thì bạn nhận được lợi ích là giải phóng dung lượng trên điện thoại. Tuy nhiên bạn sẽ phải tự lưu tài liệu thủ công (đối với tài liệu quan trọng) và nếu không thực hiện việc lưu thủ công thì sẽ có nguy cơ bị mất dữ liệu.
3. Cách tắt tự lưu ảnh trong từng cuộc trò chuyện trên Zalo
Đối với những cuộc trò chuyện nhóm, mọi người chia sẻ nhiều hình ảnh, Video trong ngày nên dung lượng của những cuộc trò chuyện này sẽ lớn hơn bao giờ hết. Bên cạnh đó, nếu như bạn vẫn muốn giữ tính năng tự động tải ảnh về với một số cuộc trò chuyện quan trọng và tắt tự động lưu ảnh với một số cuộc trò chuyện không quan trọng thì bạn nên sử dụng cách này.
Step 1: Open the chat where you want to disable the auto-saving and auto-downloading of images and videos. Then, select Options ➨ Personal Settings.
Step 2: Then, turn off the option Save images and videos taken from Zalo to disable the auto-download of images in chats on Zalo.
4. How to disable auto-download of images on Zalo for PC
On the Zalo desktop platform, data is still backed up directly to the computer's storage. For office workers who frequently use Zalo for sharing documents, the storage can quickly fill up. In this case, simply disable the auto-download feature to save space.
Step 1: Open the Zalo PC app, go to Settings ➨ Preferences to view the app settings.
Step 2: Next, select the Messages tab and disable the option Automatically preload images/files/videos/voice messages under 30MB.
