Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of turning off "Restricted Mode" or "Chế độ hạn chế" on your YouTube account. This feature prevents you from viewing sensitive or potentially disturbing content on both the mobile app and the YouTube website. If YouTube is restricted due to network access blocks (such as on school computers or devices with parental controls enabled), you can bypass this by using a proxy website. Keep in mind that if YouTube is restricted, proxy sites might also be completely blocked, leaving you unable to remove the restrictions on YouTube.
Steps
Disabling on a Computer
Open YouTube. Go to https://www.youtube.com/ using your web browser. Your YouTube homepage will appear if you are already logged in.
- If you are not logged into your YouTube account, click on SIGN IN at the top right corner of the page, then enter your email address and password.
Click on your profile icon located at the top right corner of the YouTube page. A dropdown menu will appear.
Click on Settings (Cài đặt).
Click on the "Restricted Mode" dropdown located at the bottom of the page. Additional options will appear at the bottom of the browser window.
Scroll down and check the "Off" (Tắt) box. The option is located at the bottom of the page.
Click on Save (Lưu). The option is located at the bottom of the page, below the "Restricted Mode" section. Changes will be saved, and Restricted Mode will be disabled for your account.
Close and reopen YouTube. Exit the YouTube tab, then open a new tab and access YouTube again. YouTube's cache will reload, allowing previously restricted videos to appear in future searches.
Disabling on Mobile
Open YouTube. Tap on the YouTube app icon, which features a white triangle on a red background. Your YouTube homepage will open if you are already logged in.
- If you are not logged in, tap on the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen, press Sign In, and enter your email address and password (or select an account if prompted).
Tap on the profile icon in the top right corner of the screen. A dropdown menu will appear.
Tap on Settings. This option is located in the dropdown menu. The Settings page will open.
- On Android, you need to tap on General (Chung) first to see this option.
Close and reopen the YouTube app. Previously restricted content may take a few minutes to reappear on the YouTube app, but you can speed up the process by closing and reopening the app.
Using a Proxy Website
Understand how proxy servers work. A proxy website routes your searches through a different server than the one your current network uses, bypassing any network restrictions. Proxy sites are often viewed as insecure and unreliable by network administrators, so many may be unavailable if your internet is monitored.
- Proxy websites also run significantly slower than regular sites, which can result in a less-than-ideal YouTube experience.
Choose a proxy website. There are many free proxy websites you can use to bypass internet restrictions. Some or all of your choices may be blocked due to network limitations, so try the following sites until you find one that works:
- HideMe - https://hide.me/en/proxy
- ProxySite - https://www.proxysite.com/
- Whoer - https://whoer.net/webproxy
- ProxFree - https://www.proxfree.com/youtube-proxy.php
- If none of the above proxy sites are available, try searching for "free online proxy 2018" (or similar) on Google and test the proxy sites listed in the results. Make sure to research the proxy server you choose before entering any personal information.
Locate the URL search bar. This field is usually positioned in the middle of the proxy page. You can navigate to other websites using the URL search bar on the proxy site.
Enter YouTube's address. Type www.youtube.com into the URL search bar of the proxy website.
Adjust search settings if necessary. Many proxy sites offer additional search options (such as server location), which you can modify before proceeding.
- For example, if there’s an option to change the server location to your country, select it before searching. However, some videos may still be unavailable in your region (this is unrelated to Restricted Mode).
Initiate the search. Click the Go/Search button, or press ↵ Enter. You will be redirected to YouTube's website, where you can search and view all content typically available on an unrestricted network.
- YouTube may run very slowly, especially if you’re using a server in a different region or country.
Tips
- You can also use a virtual private network if you have subscribed and installed VPN software on your internet connection.
- Disabling Restricted Mode will not bypass YouTube's regional filters, which cause the "Video is not available in your region" error.
- Computers provided in school libraries or public spaces may have content filtering systems (like SafeSquid) enabled by administrators, preventing you from manually turning off Restricted Mode.
Warnings
- Disabling YouTube's Restricted Mode may violate computer usage policies at your workplace, school, or home.
- Never attempt to bypass regulations or laws in your country, workplace, or school. The consequences of such actions can be unpredictable and severe.
