Turning off surveillance cameras can help conceal your identity, although your presence may still be detected. Those monitoring the camera will know you're there but won't be able to determine your actions. You can disable cameras in the dark using LED lights, infrared laser beams during day or night, or by blocking the camera lens.
Steps
Using LED Lights

Direct a strong LED (light-emitting diode) beam at the camera lens. The brighter the flashlight, the more effective it will be. It's best to use a small, portable device. This method is most effective in dark environments, so save it for covert nighttime trips or enclosed spaces.

Obscure your face with a light beam. Accurately locate the camera and shine the light directly into the lens. When done correctly, this technique creates a flash of light that makes it almost impossible to identify you through the camera. However, this method isn’t ideal as the sudden flash can alert the observer to your presence. But at the very least, the bright light can obscure your face.

Hold the light carefully. Make sure the beam stays focused on the camera lens, or else your face will be revealed. You must ensure no light hits your face. Note: This technique only works if you act swiftly and precisely.

Attach infrared LED lights to your clothing. For convenience, you can attach a strip of LED lights to a hat or headband using strong adhesive. Alternatively, you can create a homemade "LED mask" to completely cover your face. Make sure the lights are bright enough to blur your face from the camera’s view, but not so bright that they impair your vision!
Using Infrared Laser Lights

Direct the infrared laser light at the camera lens. This method is more advanced than the previous one, but it requires precision. If the laser dot moves away from the lens for even a second, the camera will capture your face. Act quickly and efficiently to avoid detection.
- This method can be used both during the day and at night (more effective in the dark).
- You can use any standard laser pointer. In general, the stronger the laser, the more effective it will be.

You should be aware of the drawbacks. The camera will be able to see you until the laser beam is properly aligned. The camera can immediately capture an image if anything obstructs the laser beam's path to the lens. Additionally, the effectiveness of this method is somewhat difficult to assess. You can't tell if the laser has been correctly aligned just by looking from your side.
- Never direct the laser at your eyes. It could cause blindness! Consider wearing dark glasses to protect your vision, though the risk remains.

Be cautious of other cameras. Since this method requires focus, you can only disable one camera with a single laser pen. While a laser pen is much more sophisticated than an LED light or flashlight, the method's effectiveness is still limited. If you need to disable several cameras at once, you'll need a corresponding number of laser pens. You might want to consider coordinating with friends.
Cover the camera lens

Apply wax to the lens. Apply Vaseline or a thick wax-like substance to the camera lens to blur the image. If necessary, try using sticky foods such as butter, jam, or peanut butter. Ensure that you cover the entire surface of the lens. Be careful not to get caught while approaching the camera!
- Watch out for leaving fingerprints on the camera! You may not be identified, but people could still trace your identity through other evidence you leave behind.

Place tape over the lens. Use black or silver tape, masking tape, or any opaque type of tape. You must cover the entire recording device! Remember to cover your face to avoid being recognized when approaching the camera.

Cover the entire camera. In urgent situations, simply obstruct the camera's field of view with something larger. Try taping or tying a plastic bag or fabric over the lens. You can also block the camera's view using a shield, board, or any other object.
- If you have nothing on hand, you can use a shirt or scarf to cover the camera. If you have to leave clothing on the device, make sure that the item won't implicate you.
Advice
- It’s simpler to disguise yourself. If hiding your identity is more important than being detected, you can manage by covering your face. Wear sunglasses, a terrorist-style mask, or any other face-covering attire.
Warning
- Bright infrared rays can cause blindness!
- These devices might trigger certain fire alarms based on infrared rays.
- Filters could render your method ineffective. In fact, not all cameras are sensitive to infrared rays.
- The above methods may not work with flash cameras.
- Note: Hiding your identity from surveillance cameras is not illegal, but criminal acts and illegal behavior are a different matter. Be cautious, careful, and smart with your actions. We only have one shot.
