Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of downloading files from the data-sharing platform Kickasstorrents (abbreviated as KAT). To begin, you’ll need to download a client that facilitates the downloading process. Please note that using torrents to download copyrighted material is illegal.
Steps
Install BitTorrent

Visit the BitTorrent website at http://www.bittorrent.com/. You can download BitTorrent for both Mac and Windows platforms.

Click on DOWNLOAD BITTORRENT (Download BitTorrent). This button is located in the center of the page.

Click on the "Free Download" link. The link is positioned below the "Compare Features" heading near the top of the page.

Wait for the BitTorrent setup file to download. In some cases, you may need to confirm or select a download folder before proceeding.

Double-click the purple setup file with white accents.
- You might need to confirm that you want to open the setup file by clicking OK before continuing.

Click Next twice. This button is located in the bottom-right corner of the setup window.

Click on I agree (I agree). This action confirms that you have read and agreed to the terms of use for BitTorrent.

Select the shortcut location if prompted. In most cases, BitTorrent will install a shortcut on your desktop. If additional options appear during this step, you can click the box on the left to deselect the corresponding item.

Click Next two more times. On Windows, during the second page after clicking Next, you can choose to prevent BitTorrent from launching automatically with your computer.

Click on Decline (Decline) on pages suggesting additional downloads. When downloading BitTorrent, you may be prompted to install additional programs (such as antivirus software). While downloading these programs is optional, you can click Decline if you prefer not to install them.

Click on Finish (Finish) once BitTorrent installation is complete. The task is located at the bottom right corner of the window. BitTorrent will open, and you can proceed to download the torrent you want.
Download torrent

Visit the Kickasstorrents website. As of May 2017, the official Kickasstorrents website is https://kickass.cd/.
- If you are prompted to log in or sign up to download content, you are on the wrong KAT page.
- Since Kickasstorrents is filled with ads, you might want to use an ad blocker.

Click on the "Search query" bar. This search bar is located in the middle of the KAT homepage.

Type your keyword and click the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the search bar.
- For example, if you are searching for a book, enter the book's title.

Identify a healthy torrent. When downloading a torrent, there are a few things to consider:
- Uploader (seeder) – The number in the "SEED" column on the right side of the page should be higher than (or close to) the number in the "LEECH" column.
- File details – Ensure the file name, category, and any other information in the title match exactly what you are looking for.
- Quality (for videos only) – Look for a resolution of at least "720p" in the title ("1080p" is ideal). Lower resolutions indicate poorer quality.

Click on the torrent you wish to download. There are a few additional factors to consider before proceeding:
- Comments – User feedback will help you gauge the safety of the torrent.
- Ratings – Pay attention to the yellow approval and red disapproval icons at the top right of the torrent page. If the number under the disapproval icon is high, the torrent may be corrupted or unsafe.

Click on Download Torrent (Download Torrent). This option is located below the torrent's title near the top of the page. The file will begin downloading.
- The torrent file will download in just a few seconds.

Double-click the torrent file. The file will open in BitTorrent, and the actual download of the content will begin shortly after.

Wait for the file to download. Once the torrent file is opened in your client, your computer will connect to seeders and start downloading the file. The torrent download process may take a moment to "prepare," but once connected to reliable seeders, the download speed will reach its maximum potential.
- Once the torrent is complete, you can find the file in your default "downloads" folder, such as your desktop.
- To locate the downloaded file, search for its name in Spotlight (Mac) or Start (Windows) and click on the appropriate file.
Tips
- Generally, you can demonstrate good etiquette by "seeding" (uploading to help others download) the torrent you've downloaded for at least the minimum time required for others to download the file. To seed a torrent, simply leave it open in your client.
- If BitTorrent is incompatible with your computer or KAT for any reason, you can download uTorrent (another version of BitTorrent) at http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/.
Warnings
- Downloading copyrighted material from torrent sites is often illegal.
