Google is one of the best platforms for downloading books online, allowing you to choose what you want to read from a variety of sources. You can access your books on your computer or e-reader. Downloading books from Google can be a bit tricky, especially if you plan to use them on multiple devices. You can download books in formats like EPUB or PDF, but you may need to remove DRM protection after downloading.
Steps
Download from the Google Play Books Library

Open the Google Play Books library. You can access it at play.google.com/books. If you haven't logged in yet, you'll be prompted to sign in with your Google account.

Find the book from your library that you want to download. You can only download books you have purchased or those that are free and have been added to your library from the Google Play Store, as well as any books you’ve uploaded yourself.
- You cannot download any book in your library marked as 'Sample' on the cover. A Sample only contains a few pages of the book, not the full text.
- Not all purchased books are available for download, as it depends on the publisher's decision.

Hover over the book and click on the menu button that appears at the top right corner of the cover. If the book is already open, you will need to click 'Exit' to return to your library first.

Select 'Download PDF' or 'Download EPUB'. This allows you to download the book in your preferred format. Purchased books will download as ACSM files under DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection.
- PDF is compatible with most devices but lacks any navigation features.
- EPUB is designed for eBook readers, allowing you to use the device's reading functions for that book.

Remove DRM from downloaded files of purchased books. When you download a PDF of a book you purchased from Google Play Books, it will be in ACSM format. This is essentially a link that needs to be opened with Adobe Digital Editions program.
Download from the Google Books Search Tool

Open the book you want to download. You can download any book that has a "Read" link in the search results from Google Books. The book must be free for this method to work; if the book was purchased, it will be in your Google Play Books library.

Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the page.

Select "Download PDF" or "Download EPUB". This option allows you to download the book to your computer in your preferred format. If you don’t see this option, the book needs to be purchased first before you can download it.
- PDF is compatible with most devices, but it lacks navigation features.
- EPUB is designed for eBook readers and supports eBook reader functions for that book.
Remove DRM from Purchased Books

Download and install Adobe Digital Editions. This program is required to open the ACSM file in order to access the PDF file. Adobe Digital Editions is free and can be found at adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and download the eBook you have obtained. This will download the eBook to your computer.
- You can drag and drop the ACSM file into the Adobe Digital Editions window to add it.
- Check the box "I want to authorize my computer without an ID" in the "Computer Authorization" window that pops up. Then, click the “Authorize” button to activate your computer.

Right-click the book in the Adobe Digital Editions library and select "Show in Explorer" or "Show in Finder". A window will open showing the eBook file that has been downloaded to your computer. Do not close the window.

Download and install Calibre. This is a free eBook reader program that allows you to remove DRM with a plugin. You can download Calibre for free at calibre-ebook.com/download.

Download the DRM removal plugin. Follow the instructions carefully, as incorrect steps could result in the installation of malicious software.
- Visit datafilehost.com/d/4f680364 in Firefox (since Chrome may block the download).
- IMPORTANT: Uncheck the box labeled "Use our download manager".
- Click the Download button.
- Open the downloaded ZIP file and then open the "DeDRM_calibre_plugin" folder.
- Drag and drop the ZIP file "De_DRM_plugin" onto your desktop.

Select "Preferences". In the "Advanced" section, choose "Plugins".
Select the "Load plugin from file" button and choose the ZIP file "De_DRM_plugin" from your desktop. Restart Calibre to apply the changes.

Go back to the Plugins menu. Expand the "File types" section and select "DeDRM".

Click on "Customize plugin" and choose "Adobe Digital Edition eBooks".

Click the "+" button to create a new decryption key. Click "Close", then "OK", and finally "Apply". Restart Calibre once more.

Return to the Explorer or Finder window with the PDF file that Adobe Digital Reader downloaded (Step 3). Drag and drop the PDF file into the Calibre window to add it to the Calibre library. DRM will be removed when the book is added to the library.
- Any new ACSM files you add to the Calibre library will now also have DRM removed.

Right-click the newly downloaded eBook in the Calibre library and select "Open containing folder". This will open an Explorer or Finder window showing the new eBook file with DRM removed. You can now transfer this file to any compatible device.
Download a Sample or Preview from Google Books Search

Download and install Google Books Downloader. This free program allows you to access the URL of a Google Books file and then download the available pages to your computer.
- You can download Google Books Downloader from googlebookdownloader.codeplex.com/releases/view/125464.

Copy the URL for the book you wish to download. Choose the preview mode from the Google Books search and copy the URL. Keep in mind that this tool will only download pages that are viewable in the Google Books web reader.

Paste the URL into the "Google Book URL" field in Google Book Downloader. Select the output format if you don't want the PDF.
- You can also choose the location where you want the book to be saved. By default, it will be saved to your desktop.

Click "Start" to begin downloading the book. It may take some time if there are many pages to download.
Warning
- Be cautious to avoid files containing malware. Do not download files that seem unreliable.
- Sometimes, the book may not be available on eBooks.
