How to Download Microsoft Word

This guide explains how to download Microsoft Word on your computer, smartphone, or tablet. If you're using a desktop, Microsoft Word is part of the Microsoft Office suite. While Microsoft Office comes with a price tag, you can try out the full version of the software for free for 30 days.

Go to https://products.office.com/en-us/word through your web browser. This will take you to Microsoft's product page.

• Microsoft Word cannot be bought separately; you must purchase the entire Microsoft Office suite.
• If you're looking for a long-term solution but can't afford Office, scroll to the end of the page to explore "Try Free Options".

Click on TRY FOR FREE (Free Trial). A menu will appear here.

• If you don't want to use the free 30-day trial, click on BUY NOW to purchase.

Click on For Home (For family).

• If you've clicked BUY NOW, a list of purchase options will be displayed. Click on BUY NOW next to the version you want to add it to your cart, then click Checkout and proceed to step 5.

Click on TRY 1-MONTH FREE (1-Month Free Trial). This option allows you to try Office 365 for one month before committing to purchase.

• Even with the free trial, you will need to enter your credit card information to download the program. Charges will only occur after the trial period ends.

Sign in to your Microsoft account. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to log in. If you don't have an account, create one by following the provided steps.

Add a payment method. Click on Add a way to pay or the "Payment method" menu, select the payment method you'd like to use, and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your payment details.

Follow the on-screen instructions to download Office. Once your payment method has been verified, you can download the Office setup program to your Windows or Mac computer. The installer file is typically saved in the Downloads folder after downloading.

Open the installer and follow the on-screen prompts. On Windows, the installer will appear automatically. On a Mac, double-click the file starting with "Microsoft Office" and ending with the "pkg" extension in the Downloads folder, then follow the on-screen instructions to install Office.

Cancel the free trial before the one-month period ends (optional). If you don't want to pay for Office, be sure to cancel your free trial before your credit card is charged. Here's how you can cancel the trial:

• Visit https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in.
• Click Cancel under the Office 365 trial subscription and follow the on-screen instructions.

Visit https://www.office.com/ through your web browser. Use this method if you've already purchased Microsoft Office 365 or 2019 and need to reinstall the software.

• If you're not logged in, sign in using the account that registered Office.

Click on Install Office or Install Office Apps. The available options here will vary depending on the type of account you use to sign in.

Click on Install or select Office. Once again, the available options will differ based on the type of account you have.

• If you have a paid Office 365 subscription, you might need to click on Install first to see these options.

Follow the on-screen prompts to download the setup file. You must click OK or Save File to begin the download process.

Install Office.

• If you're using Windows, the installer will typically appear automatically. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.
• If you're on a Mac, go to your Downloads folder and double-click the installer (the file starts with "Microsoft" and ends with the extension "pkg"). Then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Tap on Search, which appears at the bottom right corner.

Enter Microsoft Word into the search bar and tap Search. You will see a list of related results displayed here.

Tap on GET next to "Microsoft Word". This is the blue icon with a white document featuring a "W" inside. This action will download Word to your iPhone or iPad.

• If you're asked to use Touch ID or another verification method, follow the on-screen instructions.

Open Microsoft Word. The app icon will appear on your home screen once the download is complete. Simply tap on the icon to launch the app.

Search for Microsoft word in the search bar and press ↵ Enter. A list of relevant results will appear.

Tap on INSTALL (Install) next to "Microsoft Word". This icon is blue with a white document and the letter "W" inside. This will download the app to your Android device. Once the download is complete, the app icon will appear in your app drawer (and possibly on your home screen, depending on your settings).
