BitTorrent is a software program that allows you to download a single file from multiple users simultaneously. While downloading files through BitTorrent, you also upload parts of the file you've already downloaded to others. The more popular the file, the more people are sharing it, and the faster your download speed will be. There are various BitTorrent clients available to choose from.
Steps
Download and Install a BitTorrent Client

Download a torrent client. BitTorrent is the oldest torrent client and is still being updated. The application works on both Windows and Mac OS X.
- Some recently updated and popular torrent clients include uTorrent, qBittorrent, Deluge, and Vuze.

Install the torrent client on your computer. After downloading the torrent client you wish to use, open the installation file and follow the on-screen instructions on your computer.
Find and Download Movies Using the BitTorrent Client

Use a search engine to locate the torrent file for the movie you want to download. To use a torrent client, you'll need a file with the .torrent extension. You can use search engines to find this specific file type. On Google, type filetype:torrent along with the name of the movie you want to download.
- The filetype:torrent syntax works on search engines like Bing, Yahoo!, and DuckDuckGo.

Click on one of the search results that appear. Torrent sites often display numerous ads, some of which may contain inappropriate content. These sites are also frequently taken down due to copyright violations, and not all links may be functional.
- Links in the search results may direct you to a torrent file download website or initiate a direct download.
- Torrent websites usually list the number of seeders for each torrent file. Seeders are individuals uploading parts of the torrent file.

Open the torrent client.

Open the torrent file you just downloaded. Depending on the torrent client, you can drag and drop the file into the client's window to open it. Alternatively, you can use the File menu to open the torrent file. Double-clicking the file will also open it in the torrent client.

Start downloading the data. Most torrent clients won't begin downloading the file until you manually initiate it. Click on the torrent file to select it, then press the start transfer button (usually represented by a play-like arrow icon).
- Once the file starts downloading, you'll see the number of people downloading and uploading the content. The more people seeding the file, the faster your download speed will be.
- When the file finishes downloading, you can continue seeding by keeping the torrent client open.
- Movie files can be downloaded in various formats. Depending on the format, you might need to download a new video player.
Warnings
- If the movie has few seeders, the download time might be significantly longer.
- Downloading movies isn't illegal, but sharing them is. When you seed a movie, you make yourself vulnerable to lawsuits from the copyright holders of the film.
- If your internet service provider detects that you're downloading movies via BitTorrent, they may send you a warning. In such cases, it's best to stop. Continuing could result in your internet service being terminated and facing copyright infringement penalties.
- You should only download movies that are in the public domain, have a Creative Commons license, or similar. Avoid downloading copyrighted films.
