This article explains how to download YouTube videos to your computer using Google Chrome. The best method to download HD-quality videos without ads or restrictions is to use 4K Video Downloader on your PC, but you can also use many convenient websites to download videos on Google Chrome. Keep in mind that most YouTube download sites have ads and cannot download protected videos. Additionally, these sites do not allow downloading videos in 1080p quality. Since downloading YouTube videos violates Google’s terms and conditions, Chrome extensions aimed at downloading videos may not work effectively.
Steps
Install the YouTube Video Downloader extension

Open the YouTube Video Downloader extension page. Visit http://addoncrop.com/youtube_video_downloader on Google Chrome to do this.

Click on the Download for Chrome button on the right side of the page. This will download the YouTube Video Downloader ZIP folder to your device.
- Depending on your browser's settings, you may need to choose the download location before the file begins downloading.

Extract the folder you just downloaded as follows, based on your operating system:
- Windows — Double-click to open the ZIP folder, click Extract at the top of the window, then select Extract all from the toolbar and click Extract when prompted.
- Mac — Double-click the ZIP folder to begin extracting.

Click the ⋮ icon in the top-right corner of the Chrome window to open the options menu.

Select More tools from the list to access additional options.

Click on Extensions in the displayed menu to open the Extensions page.

Click on the Load unpacked button located at the top left of the window to open a file selection window.

Expand the extracted YouTube Downloader folder. If the folder isn’t open yet, double-click the folder with the same name as the ZIP folder you downloaded earlier.

Left-click to select the folder "YouTube Video Downloader - 15.0.6" inside the extracted folder.

Click OK to upload the folder to Google Chrome and initiate the installation of the extension.

Open YouTube. Go to https://www.youtube.com/ in Google Chrome to visit the YouTube homepage.

Select a video to download. You can find a video by typing its title in the search bar and pressing ↵ Enter, then click to open the video you want to download.

Download the selected video by clicking the downward arrow below the video. This will begin downloading the highest quality version of the video (excluding 1080p) to your computer.
- You can also click ⋯ on the right side of the video and choose another quality. This will open the video on a third-party conversion page before downloading, so you are responsible for your actions.
- Depending on your browser settings, you may need to choose a location to save the file or confirm the download before it begins.
Use the YouDownloader page

Open YouTube. Visit https://www.youtube.com/ on Google Chrome to access the YouTube homepage.

Select a video to download. You can find a video by typing its title in the search bar and pressing ↵ Enter, then click to open the video you want to download.

Copy the video URL. Click the video address in the address bar at the top of the Chrome window, then press Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac) to copy.

Access YouDownloader by visiting https://youdownloader.net/ from the address bar in Google Chrome.

Click on the "Search or paste link here..." field near the top of the page.

Paste the copied URL by pressing Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Command+V (Mac). You will see the copied video URL appear in the field.

Click on the Download button (in pink) to the right of the pasted URL.

Select the video quality you wish to use. From the available quality options, choose the highest resolution (e.g., 720p) that you want to download.
- If you see an audio link here, first click the mp4 tab above the 'File type' heading.

Click on the Download button next to the video quality you selected. This will start the process of downloading the video to your computer.
- Depending on your browser settings, you may need to choose a location to save the file or confirm the download before it begins.
Use the Convert2MP3 site

Open YouTube. Visit https://www.youtube.com/ from Google Chrome to access the YouTube homepage.

Select the video you want to download. Use the search bar to type in the video title and press ↵ Enter, then click to open the video you'd like to download.

Copy the video URL. Click on the video address in the address bar at the top of the Chrome window, then press Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac) to copy the link.

Go to the Convert2MP3 site by visiting http://convert2mp3.net/en/index.php in Google Chrome. While the site’s name suggests it's for converting to MP3, Convert2MP3 can also download non-copyrighted YouTube videos to your computer.
- Convert2MP3 can download videos in 1080p resolution, but only if the video is available in that quality.

Click on the 'Insert video link' box near the top of the Convert2MP3 page.

Paste the copied video link by pressing Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Command+V (Mac). You will see the copied video link appear in that box.

Click on the mp3 box next to the video link to open the quality options.

Click on the mp4 option in the selection list.

Select the quality if necessary. If you wish to increase the video quality, click the "MP4 quality" selection box, then choose a higher resolution (such as 1080p) from the available options.
- If your video is capped at 720p, you won't be able to select a higher resolution.

Click the convert button in orange to the right of the 'Insert video link' box. This will allow Convert2MP3 to start fetching your video.
- If you encounter the error message "We are sorry. Converting music videos from YouTube is not possible in your territory / region", it means the selected video contains copyrighted audio (not necessarily music), which prevents you from downloading it through Convert2MP3.

Click the Download button in green in the center of the page to begin downloading the video to your computer.
- Depending on your browser settings, you may need to choose a download location or confirm the download before the video is saved.
Tip
- Since most YouTube video download sites feature ads, consider installing an ad-blocking extension on Chrome before proceeding.
Warning
- Downloading YouTube videos violates Google's terms of service, and distributing content you don't own is a breach of copyright law. Therefore, you are fully responsible for your actions.
