Creating a Japanese manga character from start to finish is much like the character's own adventure. It requires skill, so here's a step-by-step guide to help you along the way.
Steps
Female Character

Sketch a circle and a vertical rectangle. Draw a vertical line connecting these two shapes together.

Draw a horizontal line that cuts through a quarter of the circle.

Add guiding lines for the face and the curves of the body. For the body curves, draw a triangle for the upper body and a half circle for the hips.

Outline the limbs with straight lines and circles. The circles represent the joints.

Sketch additional details of the girl, including her face, arms, neck, and body shape.

Draw two circles to form the eyes.

Sketch the straight lines to indicate the positions of the fingers.

Outline the hair.

Draw a rough outline of the dress. You can have the character wear any dress you like.

Refine the character's lines.

Erase the sketch lines.

Color it in.
Close-up view

Draw a large circle.

Outline the face, neck, and shoulders.

Add guide lines for the face. Draw three horizontal lines marking the position of the eyes, and one line below to indicate the mouth's position.

Draw the basic features of the face and ears. The ears should be positioned between the eye line and the mouth line.

Add the eyes, nose, and mouth. Also, draw additional details for the eyes and ears.

Sketch the basic shape of the hair.

Draw the character's clothing.

Erase the rough sketches and add details. You can add folds to the clothes and refine the hair.

Color the young man as you like.
Things you will need

Tips
- When drawing a full-body pose, focus on the overall shape of the character first. Avoid jumping straight into the details of specific body parts. To organize the composition, sketch the general shape or visualize it in your mind before starting to draw (if needed).
