Drawing a kitten isn't too difficult. With some simple instructions and a bit of practice, you can create a variety of kitten styles, from a cute cartoon version to a realistic sleeping kitten.
Steps
Drawing a Cute Cartoon Kitten

Outline the kitten's head and body. Start by drawing a soft-edged trapezoid for the head and draw a cross inside it. For the body, use a rectangle. Remember, kittens have larger heads compared to their bodies, unlike adult cats.
- The cross inside the kitten's head helps guide the placement of the eyes, nose, and mouth. The intersection of the cross should be roughly at the center of the face.
- Keep in mind that the kitten's head should overlap the body. The top edge of the body should align with the horizontal line of the cross on the kitten's face.

Add the ears and legs of the kitten. Sketch the shape of the kitten's legs. The legs should be rounded triangles starting from the bottom of the rectangular body. Remember, the legs at the "far" end should be slightly smaller than the ones at the "near" end.
- Similarly, draw two large triangles at the top corners of the head for the ears. These triangles should be larger than the leg triangles to give the drawing a more cartoonish look.

Sketch the kitten's tail. You can draw a wavy, round tail or a more angular one depending on your preference. However, the tail should have at least one curve; don't make it completely straight.

Draw the kitten's face. Using the rectangle within the trapezoid, draw two circles for the eyes, positioned symmetrically on either side of the vertical centerline and just above the horizontal line.
- Add the nose and mouth. The nose should be placed at the intersection of the vertical line and just below the horizontal line. The kitten's mouth resembles a rounded "W", with the center of the "W" attached to the tip of the nose.

Bold the essential lines for the head and body from the previous sketch. You can add small curved lines to represent fur. Add three straight whiskers on either side of the kitten's cheeks.

Consider adding patterns to the kitten's fur. Many kittens have striped fur, and you can incorporate this detail into your drawing if you like. Draw a few triangular stripes on the kitten's back and tail.

Erase unnecessary lines. These are the overlapping lines and the cross in the middle of the kitten's face.

Color the drawing. You can use any color you like. Consider giving the kitten a light brown fur coat. If you want to draw a striped kitten, you should vary the shapes of the stripes slightly.
Draw a kitten playing with a ball

Sketch the body and head of the kitten. Draw a circle for the head with a cross inside and an elongated oval for the body.
- The kitten in the drawing will be lying on its back, so the top of the head should be slightly lower than the body.
- Instead of drawing the cross with a vertical and horizontal line, draw it slightly askew, creating an "X" shape with the intersection at the center of the circle.
- The body should be an oval, about twice as long as the head (but with a similar height).

Draw a circle in the middle of the kitten's body. This will be the ball the kitten is playing with.
- The circle should be slightly smaller than the head of the kitten.

Sketch the kitten's paws playing with the ball. Feel free to add varying levels of complexity to the kitten's legs.
- The best way is to draw the kitten's legs in two parts. The two legs on the "top" should be slightly longer, represented by long oval shapes overlapping the ball, with smaller round ovals connecting the paws to the kitten's body. The two legs on the "bottom" should follow the same pattern, but smaller, as these are further behind.

Add the ears and tail. The kitten's ears will be two triangles extending from the head, protruding sideways. The tail will be a slightly rounded four-sided shape at the lower part of the kitten's body.

Draw the kitten's face. Draw the eyes, nose, and mouth based on the diagonal lines of the sketch. You can also add a few whiskers by drawing long lines.
- The eyes should be placed on the horizontal line in the middle.
- The nose will be placed on the vertical line, and a "W" shape will connect to the tip of the nose to form the mouth.

Draw fur on the kitten's face. Add a few soft, small lines around the kitten's face to give the impression of fur.

Draw fur on the kitten's body. Draw similar short, soft lines on the body and tail of the kitten.

Add details to the kitten's paws. When viewed from above, you'll only see the straight lines of the toes. For the back paws (seen from below), you'll see the full pads of the feet.
- Don't forget to darken the ball as well.

Erase unnecessary lines. Refine the drawing by removing any extra lines from the sketch that are not needed.

Color the kitten. You can color it as you prefer. The pads of the feet, nose, and eyes should be a different color from the fur. You should also choose a different color for the ball.
Draw a realistic sitting kitten.

Sketch a circle for the head and an oval for the body of the kitten. Draw a cross inside the circle to guide the kitten's face.
- Note that the kitten's body should only be slightly larger than the head and slightly angled away from the head.
- The intersection of the cross should be near the middle of the head.

Draw the cat's face. Outline two circles for the eyes and a semi-circle for the nose.
- The cat's eyes should be positioned above the horizontal line, equidistant from the vertical lines on both sides.
- The nose will be placed along the vertical line and below the eyes.

Draw the mouth. Sketch a circle around the mouth, including the nose. This circle should be below the eyes, but should cover the entire nose and overlap the circle representing the head.

Draw the cat's legs and tail. The front legs will be represented by two slightly curved lines, starting from about ¾ of the oval body shape, extending downward and outward at an angle.
- The back legs will be shaped like two arrowheads attached to the bottom of the oval.
- The tail will be drawn as a curved line extending out from the bottom of the oval.

Draw the paws using circles. Each paw should be attached to the curved lines representing the legs.

Connect the head to the body. Draw two inward-curving lines from either side of the head, connecting them to the body to form the cat's neck.

Draw a circle for the mouth and a curved line for the tail. The mouth will be a small circle at the bottom of the head, slightly overlapping the oval body shape. The tail begins near the back of the body oval, following the natural curve of the cat towards its face.

Sketch the cat's ears. The cat's ears will be two triangle shapes protruding from the top of the head. Since the kitten is sleeping, the lower ear will be slightly flattened or lying horizontally, while the upper ear will be angled upward and outward from the body.
- Note that the ears are about the same size as the cat's muzzle.

Add the eyes and nose. The cat's nose is a small half-circle located at the edge of the muzzle. The eyes are small, straight lines placed horizontally behind the muzzle, occupying a small part of the face.
- Since the kitten is sleeping, use short lines to show the closed eyes rather than circles for open eyes.

Draw a circle for the thigh. This circle is twice the size of the head, placed slightly off-center and overlapping with the body.
- The thigh should just reach the bottom edge of the cat's muzzle.

Sketch the basic outline. Extend and complete the tail. Darken the top curved edge of the thigh and the connecting lines between the body, head, and ears.

Erase the sketch lines. Add finer details like small lines for the ears and whiskers.
- Consider adding triangular stripes or other patterns on the cat's fur.

Color the kitten. Use any colors you like. Keep in mind that the nose should be a different color, and the top ears should also have a different color since you're looking inside the ear (this doesn't apply to the bottom ear, where you'll see the fur-covered outer side).
- If you've drawn stripes, color them in a different shade.
