Do you want to learn how to draw a five-pointed star (not necessarily the astronomical type)? Just follow this guide, and in no time, you'll be drawing a regular five-point star, and maybe even six- and seven-point stars.
Steps
Draw a Five-Pointed Star

Draw an inverted 'V'. Starting from the bottom left corner, draw a diagonal line upward, then drop down to the bottom right corner of the paper. Do not lift your pencil off the paper until you complete the star.

Draw a '\' line heading towards the upper left corner, intersecting the first line at a point 1/3 from the bottom, without lifting your pencil off the paper.
Draw a horizontal line ('-') that intersects the inverted 'V' at a point 1/3 from the top, and end it at the right side of the paper. Remember, we still do not lift the pencil from the paper.
Draw a downward line back to the starting point. The '/' line will connect to the lower left corner of the paper.
Lift your pencil off the paper. Your star is now complete.
Erase any unnecessary lines if you don't want them inside your star.
Draw a Six-Pointed Star
Use a compass to draw a large circle.
- Place the pencil in the compass's pencil holder. Then, set the sharp point at the center of the paper.
- Keep the sharp point in place and rotate the compass. The pencil will trace a perfect circle around the center.
Use the pencil to mark a point above the circle. Then, move the sharp point of the compass to that position. Do not change the radius of the compass while moving it.
Rotate the compass to mark the point where the pencil tip intersects the left side of the circle. Repeat this step on the right side as well.
Keep the radius the same and move the sharp point of the compass to one of the previously marked points. Rotate the compass to make another mark along the edge of the circle.
Continue moving the compass to the new marked position and repeat the process until you have a total of 6 evenly spaced marks. Set the compass aside.
Use a ruler to draw a triangle, starting from the topmost marked point of the circle's edge.
- Place the pencil at the top mark. Skip the first mark on the left and connect it to the second mark on the left side of the circle.
- Continue by skipping the bottom mark and drawing a line from the second mark to the right.
- Complete the triangle by connecting the right mark to the top mark. You will have drawn a triangle.
Draw a second triangle starting from the bottom mark of the circle.
- Place the pencil at the bottom mark. Draw a straight line to the second mark.
- Draw a line to the right, skipping the top mark.
- Finish the second triangle by drawing a line back to the bottom mark of the circle.
Erase the circle. Your six-pointed star is now complete.
Draw a Seven-Pointed Star (Type 1)
Follow the same steps as the first method for drawing a five-pointed star. This style is similar to the five-pointed star.
Instead of drawing horizontally to the right, draw slightly downward to leave space for another point.
Draw horizontally to the left.
Return to the gap created in step 2.
Connect back to the starting point to complete the seven-pointed star.

Connect back to the starting point.
Tips
- Practice a lot.
- To help children remember how to draw a five-pointed star (and also learn English), you can teach them the rhyming poem by Eric Carle: "Down, over, left and right, draw a star, oh so bright." In translation: "Down, up, left, right, the child draws a star, sparkling up high."
- When drawing a seven-pointed star, style 1, it's easy to mistake it for a five-pointed star. Practice more to avoid confusion.
