Short Curly Hair
Sketch the outlines of the head and shoulders.
Visualize your preferred hairstyle. You can choose the curly hair style you want to sketch and decide whether it curves inward or outward as you wish.
Outline the main shape of the hair with curly strokes.
Add a few more detailed curly lines to define the hair shape clearly.
Erase excess lines and add facial details to your drawing.
Color your drawing. If the drawing is done on a material that doesn't allow easy fading of colors, avoid coloring the highest points. This area includes the top of the head and the large curly locks of hair.
Add lighter hair strands where the light hits the most. These will be the highest points of the hair, specifically the top of the head.
Draw shadows around the hair near the neck area. You can also add shadows where the hair overlaps and in the areas of skin close to the hair.
Lighten the hair in the areas where the most light hits. This is on the top of the head and some of the larger curly locks.
Long Curly Hair

Visualize your favorite hairstyle. You can choose the curly hair style you want to sketch, deciding whether the curls should curl inward or outward. Long curly hair often has straight ends and curlier roots.
Outline the main shape of the hair with long curly strokes. Sketch the hair strands to make them appear soft and fluid.
Add a few detailed curly strokes to define the curly locks.
Add facial details to your drawing and erase unnecessary lines.
Color your drawing. If the drawing is on a material that doesn't allow easy color fading, avoid coloring the highest points. This includes the top of the head and the larger curly locks.
Add lighter strands of hair in areas where the light hits most intensely. These areas will typically be the highest parts of the hair, specifically the top of the head.
Shade the hair around the area near the neck. You can also add shading where the hair overlaps or near the skin surrounding the hair.
