Corona is a light beer brewed by Cerveceria Modelo in Mexico. It is one of the most popular beers worldwide, available in over 150 countries. In many parts of the United States and other countries, Corona is traditionally served with a slice of lime. However, there are various ways to prepare and enjoy Corona. You can drink it straight or create a cocktail by adding ingredients to enhance the beer's natural flavors.
Steps
Traditional Corona Drinking Method

Chill the Corona. You can place the beer in the freezer, fridge, or cooler. Depending on the method and the beer's initial temperature, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours to chill. When choosing your chilling method, consider the time you want to spend before drinking the beer.
- Be cautious not to leave the beer in the freezer for more than 30 minutes as it could explode.
- The fastest way to chill the beer is by using a cooler with ice (it transfers heat quickly). For this method, add ice to the cooler for about an hour or more. Once the ice starts to melt slightly, place the Corona beer inside the cooler.

Open the bottle and enjoy Corona with salt and lime. Use a bottle opener as all Corona bottles require one to open. Sprinkle sea salt, Lucas, or any salt-based seasoning on the rim of the bottle. Place a slice of lime on the bottle neck and squeeze the lime juice into the bottle. Push the lime slice into the bottle to enhance the flavor of the beer.
- If you'd like the beer to mix better, you can place your thumb over the bottle's neck and gently invert the bottle a few times. Note: Inverting the bottle too quickly may cause the beer to release carbon dioxide and explode.
Drink and enjoy Corona. But remember to drink responsibly.
Corona cocktail
Chill the Corona. Follow the first step in Method 1 of this guide to chill your beer. A cold Corona is essential for mixing a good drink.
Mix the Corona. Add one of the following ingredients to a mixing jar or an empty glass and fill it halfway with Corona: lime, Tabasco sauce, tomato juice, salt, and/or pepper. These ingredients are commonly used with Corona, along with lime and salt. Adding them to the beer will elevate its flavor and give you a chance to experiment.
- If you prefer just one or two ingredients, you can add them directly to the bottle without using a mixing jar.
- Ensure that you enjoy the combination of flavors. You can do this by tasting each ingredient mixed with the Corona in a small glass.
- If the Corona warms up during mixing, add ice to the mixing jar or glass with the ingredients.
Making a Red Corona. Add a small glass of vodka, a teaspoon of pomegranate syrup, and a slice of lime to 7/8 of a Corona bottle.
- Remember, the best way to mix this drink is by placing your thumb on top of the bottle and gently flipping it upside down a few times. Caution: Flipping the beer too fast will cause carbon dioxide to escape and may cause an explosion.
- If mixing directly in the bottle proves difficult, you can add the ingredients to a cup or shaker.
Making a Mexican Bulldog Margarita. Add 30 ml of tequila, 200-300 ml of margarita mix, and 8-10 ice cubes into a blender. Blend until smooth. Pour the mix into a 500 ml (or larger) glass and top it off with the inverted Corona bottle.
- Make sure the glass rim is wide enough to hold the Corona without spilling over. If using a smaller glass, you can use a Coronita (the smaller Corona version).
Drinking Corona Mix. No matter how you choose to mix it, Corona is always delicious and refreshing. Don't forget to add a slice of lime and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor.
Tips
- If you want to keep your Corona cold while drinking, consider purchasing a beer cooler to store the bottles. This will help maintain their chill for a longer period.
- Always drink Corona cold. Warm beer can cause nausea and digestive issues. Additionally, you won’t be able to fully enjoy the beer's flavor.
- All recipes use Corona in bottles, but you can also use canned Corona if needed. However, bottles tend to be easier to mix.
- Corona Extra is more popular than Corona Light.
Warning
- When freezing Corona, avoid leaving it for more than 30 minutes as it may explode, creating a mess to clean up.
- Corona is an alcoholic beverage, so make sure to drink responsibly and in moderation.
