Noni fruit, also known as cheese fruit or Morinda, has been used for thousands of years in the Pacific for treating various health issues. Proponents of using noni fruit believe that its juice helps treat conditions ranging from low energy to cancer. Making noni juice at home is simple: just blend the fruit and strain out the seeds. You can also purchase pre-made noni juice or extracts. Since noni is an herb that has not been scientifically proven, it is important to consult a doctor before consumption and discontinue use if any side effects occur.
Steps
Blend the Noni Fruit

Leave the noni fruit unripe for a few days. Unripe noni fruit will feel firm when you touch it. Place the unripe fruits on the kitchen counter. After a few days, you’ll notice the skin becoming translucent. Once the fruit is soft, it is ready to use. Noni juice is also available in bottled, dried, powdered, or capsule forms. These alternatives can be consumed immediately, saving you from the unpleasant smell and taste of fresh noni juice.

Blend the noni fruit with water. Rinse the noni fruit and place it in a blender. You may need to add a little water to help the blender work. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) of cold water or more if necessary. Blend the noni fruit until it reaches a thick consistency similar to apple sauce.
- If the noni fruit doesn’t fit in the blender, you can cut it into smaller pieces. The fruit is very soft when ripe, so you can also mash it by hand.

Strain the seeds from the juice. Get a strainer or a filtering tool ready. Place the strainer over a bowl or position a funnel over a glass. Pour the juice into the strainer and stir with a spoon to help it drain. Use the spoon to scrape any remaining juice from the blender. The seeds will stay behind in the strainer.

Dilute the noni juice with water. The noni juice you just blended will be quite thick. It's recommended to dilute it with a little water to make it easier to drink. You can add as much water as you like to the bowl or glass.
- Just drink 1/4 cup (60 ml) of noni juice daily. One noni fruit provides enough juice for two people, so feel free to dilute it as needed.

Enhance the flavor of noni juice with fruits. Noni juice has a strong flavor that may not be very pleasant. You can reduce the intensity by turning it into a smoothie. For example, blend 140 g of carrots, peeled orange, 2 tablespoons of coconut milk, 1 cup (240 ml) of coconut water, 110 g of pineapple, 2 tablespoons of shredded coconut, 1 cup of ice, and 1 teaspoon of strained noni juice.
- You can also simply add a bit of fruit juice or honey to the noni juice. While this method might not completely mask the strong flavor of noni, you will gradually get used to its taste.
Drink noni juice safely

Consult a doctor before drinking noni juice. Noni juice is a herbal supplement. It’s always best to check with your doctor to ensure that drinking noni juice is safe for you. While noni juice is believed to offer various health benefits, this is not yet proven and it may cause side effects. Therefore, you should contact your doctor immediately if you experience any adverse reactions after drinking noni juice.

Start with a small amount. The typical starting dose is about 1/10 cup (approximately 30 ml). You only need to drink one serving of juice per day. Once you get used to it, you can gradually increase the amount or take a second serving later in the day. Do not exceed 3 cups (750 ml) per day.
- For noni extract in capsule form, limit your intake to 500 mg per day. Check the product label to find out how much extract is in each capsule.

Avoid drinking noni juice during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Noni juice was historically used to induce abortions. Although there is no conclusive evidence to show that noni fruit is harmful to the fetus or newborn, it is safest to choose a safer alternative during this time. Do not consume noni juice while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Stop drinking noni juice if you have liver or kidney issues. Individuals with liver or kidney disease should avoid noni juice. The potassium and other substances in noni juice could worsen these conditions. Consult your doctor for alternative options.
- Unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and nausea are common symptoms of these conditions. Liver disease may cause yellowing of the skin, while kidney disease can lead to swelling in the face, hands, and feet.

Avoid drinking noni juice if you have high potassium levels. Noni fruit is very high in potassium. Elevated potassium levels, or hyperkalemia, can affect heart rhythms and muscle function. If you experience changes in potassium levels or have related health issues, you should stop drinking noni juice.
- Symptoms of high potassium levels include fatigue, numbness, nausea, chest pain, and rapid heartbeats.
Warning
- The health benefits of noni juice have not been proven. Be cautious when using herbs for medicinal purposes and always consult with your doctor.
