Steps
Simple Eating

Eat the sardines straight from the can. You don't need elaborate preparation to enjoy canned sardines! Just grab a fork and eat them directly from the can as a healthy, protein-packed snack. You can also drizzle some lemon juice, hot sauce, or balsamic vinegar on top if you prefer.
- Canned sardines are a great food to take on backpacking trips or to store in emergency kits.

Include sardines in your salad. Sardines add an extra layer of flavor to any salad! You can mix the sardines into a typical salad or try chopping the sardines, oranges, olives, and hard-boiled eggs, and adding them to a mixed greens salad. Drizzle some dressing on top and enjoy!

Serve sardines with toasted bread. The salty and rich flavor of sardines pairs perfectly with crispy toast. Simply toast a slice of your favorite bread, spread butter, and place the sardines on top. You can also spread some mayonnaise on the toast before adding the sardines and sprinkle a little dill on top for extra flavor.

Eat sardines with crunchy crackers. Choose your favorite type of crackers and top them with sardines. Add a drizzle of hot sauce on top for a spicy snack! You can also spread mayonnaise or mustard on the crackers before placing the sardines on top if you prefer.

Top your pasta with grilled sardines. Pour a little olive oil into a pan. Add the sardines and minced garlic, and cook over medium-high heat until the garlic turns golden. Add the sardines and garlic to your favorite pasta dish. Try topping your pasta with sardines and Alfredo sauce, or mix it into linguine with cauliflower florets and lemon.

Spread sardines on pizza. Sardines are a fantastic topping for pizza! You can place them on a traditional pepperoni or sausage pizza to enhance the flavor and add some substance. Another option is to scatter crispy fried onions on top, layer chopped sardines, drizzle some olive oil, and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and crème fraîche. Bake for 10-15 minutes at 232°C.
Prepare Fisherman’s Eggs.

Preheat the oven and the dish. Set the oven to 260°C and place an oven-safe dish inside for 5 minutes as the oven heats up.

Add shallots, garlic, parsley, and sardines to the heated dish. Use a sharp knife and cutting board to finely chop 1 small shallot, 2 garlic cloves, and 3 sprigs of parsley. Place these ingredients along with canned sardines into the warmed dish. Sprinkle black pepper on top.

Bake for 6 minutes, then remove the dish and add eggs. Put the dish in the oven and bake for 6 minutes. Carefully remove the dish using oven mitts. Crack 4 eggs into a bowl and gently pour them over the sardine mixture. Season with salt and pepper.

Bake for another 7 minutes, then let the dish rest for 5 minutes. Carefully place the dish back into the oven and bake for another 7 minutes. The egg whites will be cooked but still slightly runny. Using oven mitts, take the dish out and let it sit for 5 minutes to finish cooking. Serve the Fisherman’s Eggs with toast and hot sauce.
