This article guides you through the process of enabling cookies and JavaScript in your web browser. Cookies are small data files from websites you've visited, which your browser keeps to make revisiting and interacting with those sites faster and more personalized. JavaScript is a computer language that allows the browser to load and display visually appealing elements on websites. Remember, by default, JavaScript is usually enabled in most browsers.
Steps
For Chrome on Android

Open Chrome. Tap on the app icon, which is a circle made up of red, green, yellow, and blue colors.

Tap on ⋮. This button is located at the top-right corner of the screen, and a dropdown menu will appear.

Tap on Settings. This option is located at the bottom of the dropdown menu.

Scroll down and tap Site settings. This option is near the bottom of the page.

Tap on Cookies. You will find this option near the top of the screen.



- If the Cookies switch is blue or green, it means that Cookies are already enabled.
- You can also check the "Allow third-party cookies" box near the top of the page to permit websites to view cookies.

Tap on the "Back" button. This button is located at the top-left corner of the screen.

Tap on JavaScript. This option is located near the center of the Site Settings page.



- If the JavaScript switch is blue or green, it means JavaScript is already enabled.
For Chrome on desktop

Open Google Chrome. Click on the Chrome icon, which is a circle made up of green, red, yellow, and blue colors.

Click on the ⋮ icon located in the upper-right corner of your browser window. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click on Settings near the bottom of the dropdown menu.

Scroll down and click on Advanced ▼ located at the bottom of the page.

Scroll down and click on Content settings under the Privacy & Security section, located near the bottom of the options list.

Click on Cookies, located near the top of the Content Settings menu.


- If the toggle switch is blue, it means that cookies are already enabled.



Click on <> JavaScript. This option is located near the center of the page.

Enable JavaScript. Click the gray toggle next to Allowed (recommended). The toggle will turn blue.
- If the switch turns blue, JavaScript is already enabled in Chrome.
- Also, make sure no sites are listed under "Block JavaScript" at the bottom half of this page.
For Firefox on Android

Open Firefox. Tap on the Firefox app icon, which looks like an orange fox curled around a blue globe.
- You cannot enable JavaScript in the mobile Firefox app because JavaScript is always enabled in Firefox. However, you can still enable cookies on Android.

Tap on the ⋮. This button can be found in the top-right corner of your screen. A dropdown menu will appear when you tap it.

Tap on Settings (Settings). You can find this option near the bottom of the dropdown menu.

Tap on the Privacy (Privacy). This tab is located on the left side of your screen.

Tap on Cookies. This option is located near the top of the page.

Tap on the Enabled. This is how you enable cookies for Firefox browser.
For Firefox on desktop

Launch Firefox. Tap on the blue globe symbol embraced by the orange fox.
- JavaScript is always enabled in Firefox, but you can still enable cookies.
- If you experience JavaScript errors in Firefox, uninstall and reinstall Firefox.

Click ☰. This button is located at the top right of the window. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click Options (Options on Windows) or Preferences (Preferences on Mac). This button is located within the dropdown menu. It opens the Options page.

Click on the Privacy (Privacy). This tab is located on the left side of the page (for Windows) or at the top of the window (for Mac).

Click on the "Firefox will" dropdown. This option is located in the center of the page. This step will open a dropdown menu.

Click Use custom settings for history (Use custom settings for history). You'll see more options towards the bottom of the page.

Check the "Accept cookies from sites" box. This option is located below the History section.

Click the "Accept third-party cookies" dropdown. You'll find this option beneath the "Accept cookies from sites" box.

Click Always (Always). This is how to enable cookies for all Firefox browsers.
For Microsoft Edge

Open Microsoft Edge. The icon is a dark blue letter "e".

Click on ⋯. You can find this button at the top-right corner of the Edge window. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click on Settings (Settings). This button is located at the bottom of the dropdown menu. Clicking it will open a new window.

Scroll down and click on View advanced settings (View advanced settings). This option is located at the bottom of the Settings window.

Scroll down and click on the "Cookies" dropdown. This option is located near the bottom of the Settings window. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click on Don't block cookies (Do not block cookies). This button is found at the bottom of the dropdown menu. Click it to enable cookies.

Exit Microsoft Edge. Your settings will be saved.



Type edit group policy in the Start menu. This is the action to search for the Edit Group Policy program on your computer.

Click on Edit Group Policy. This option is located at the top of the Start window.

Navigate to the "Microsoft Edge" folder. To do so, follow these steps:
- Double-click on User Configuration.
- Double-click on Administrative Templates.
- Double-click on Windows Components.
- Double-click on Microsoft Edge.

Double-click on Allows you to run scripts, like JavaScript. A window with various JavaScript options will appear.

Click on the Enabled. This option enables JavaScript in your browser.
- If Enabled is already selected, it means JavaScript is already enabled in Edge.

Click on OK. This button is located at the bottom of the window and allows you to save your settings.
For Internet Explorer

Launch Internet Explorer. Its icon is a blue letter "e" encircled by a yellow ring.



Click on Internet options. You can find this option near the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Click on the Privacy. This tab is located at the top of the window.

Click on Advanced. This option is found within the "Settings" section at the top of the window.

Allow both first- and third-party cookies. Click the Allow circle under both "First-party Cookies" and "Third-party Cookies."

Click on the OK. This step will enable cookies and take you back to the Internet Options window.

Click on the Security. This tab is located near the top of the Internet Options window.

Click on the globe icon Internet. It is located near the top of the Internet Options window.

Click on Custom level. This option is located under the "Security level for this zone" section near the bottom of the Internet Options window.

Scroll down to the "Scripting" section. This section is located near the bottom of the Settings window.

Check the box labeled 'Enable' located beneath 'Active scripting.' This is the step to activate JavaScript for the browser.

Click the OK button. This option is located at the bottom of the window.

Click Apply, then click OK. Your settings will be saved, and both Cookies and JavaScript are now enabled in Internet Explorer.
For Safari on iPhone



Scroll down and tap on Safari. Scroll down about a third of the page to find this option.

Scroll down and tap on Block Cookies (Block Cookies). This option is located roughly in the middle of the page.

Tap Always Allow (Always Allow). This is how you enable cookies in the Safari app.

Tap < Safari. This option can be found in the upper left corner of the screen.

Scroll down and tap on Advanced (Advanced). This option is located at the bottom of the page.



For Safari on Mac

Open the Safari app. It is the blue compass-shaped icon located in the Dock.

Click on the Safari menu. You can find this menu at the top-left corner of your Mac's screen.

Click on Preferences. This option is located near the top of the Safari dropdown menu.

Click on the Privacy tab. This tab can be found at the top of the window.

Click on the "Cookies and Website Data" dropdown. This option is located near the top of the window.

Click on Always Allow. This is the method to enable cookies in Safari.

Click on the Security tab. You’ll find this option in the center of the Settings window.

Check the box next to Enable JavaScript. This option is located next to Web content:. Enabling JavaScript in Safari may require you to refresh the browser for changes to take effect.
Tip
- Cookies can be either first-party or third-party. First-party cookies are from the website you're currently visiting, while third-party cookies come from ads placed on the site you're viewing. Third-party cookies are used to track users across multiple sites and deliver ads based on their preferences. Allowing third-party cookies is the default setting in most web browsers.
- In most web browsers, both cookies and JavaScript are enabled by default, so you don’t need to turn them on unless they were disabled by you or someone else earlier.
