In this section, we cover how Quiet Mode works and the benefits of using it.
If you're overwhelmed by Instagram notifications but don't want to mute them completely, Quiet Mode could be the answer. This feature temporarily silences notifications, allowing you to focus on important activities like work, studying, or family time, or simply to take a breather from constant updates. In this article, we'll dive deep into Quiet Mode and show you how to turn it on or off on Instagram.
Quick Guide
- Open your Instagram profile.
- Click on the three-line icon in the top-right corner.
- Navigate to Notifications in your Instagram settings menu.
- Select Quiet Mode near the top of the notifications section.
- Toggle the switch to activate or deactivate Quiet Mode.
- Adjust your Quiet Mode settings according to your preferences.
Detailed Steps
What Instagram's Quiet Mode Does

Quiet Mode allows you to mute Instagram notifications for up to 12 hours. By default, Quiet Mode is set to pause notifications from 11 pm to 7 am, but you can customize these hours as needed. When Quiet Mode deactivates, Instagram will give you a summary of any notifications you missed during that time.
- Even when Quiet Mode is active, you can use Instagram as usual (send and receive messages). However, your status will show as "in quiet mode," informing others of your activity.
- Quiet Mode can only mute notifications for a maximum of 12 hours a day. If you wish to fully turn off your Instagram notifications, check out how to do it in this Mytour article.
- If you message someone who has Quiet Mode enabled, they will receive an automatic reply saying, "[username] wasn't notified about this message because they're in quiet mode." While they'll still get your message, they won't be alerted immediately, which may lead to a delayed response.
How to Activate or Deactivate Quiet Mode

Open your profile by tapping the icon in the bottom-right corner of the Instagram app. Currently, Quiet Mode can only be toggled through the Instagram app on Android or iPhone devices.

Click the three-line menu icon in the top-right corner of your profile. This will open your Instagram settings where you can manage Quiet Mode.

Tap on Notifications. This option is located near the top of your screen and features a bell icon.

Tap on Quiet Mode. This setting can also be found near the top of your screen.

Toggle the switch to enable or disable Quiet Mode. If you're disabling it, you can exit Instagram's settings once it's off. When enabling Quiet Mode, you can also adjust a few additional settings:
- Pick a Start time and End time. The default is 11 pm to 7 am, but you can adjust these times by tapping the timestamp and choosing new times.
- Quiet Mode can only be set for a maximum of 12 hours.
- Select the days of the week for Quiet Mode. If a day is highlighted, it means Quiet Mode is active. By default, Quiet Mode is enabled every day, but you can tap on the days to turn it on or off as desired.
