Alt codes allow computer users to enter mathematical symbols like the division sign (÷) across different programs. The method of inputting these symbols varies by operating system, but remains consistent across applications. For example, the method of entering the division sign in Word is similar to that in Google Docs (Google Documents), but differs between Windows and Mac. Today, Mytour will guide you on how to input the division sign on both Mac and Windows.
Steps
On Windows

Open a document. You can use any word processing program such as Word, Notepad, or Google Docs.
- If using a simplified keyboard without the number pad, press the "Fn" and "Num Lock" keys. The number lock will be activated, and the right side of the keyboard will function as the number pad. Numbers are printed in small blue font on the corresponding keys.

Hold down the Alt key and type 0247. At this point, the symbol will not appear yet.
- Ensure you use the correct number pad to enter these digits, as the numbers above the letters won’t yield the same result.

Release the Alt key. Once you release the Alt key, the division sign (÷) will appear.
- If nothing appears, check if the Num Lock key is activated and try again.
- You can also try the shortcut Alt+246.
On MacOS
