With the introduction of the new Fairy type in the Pokémon X and Y video games, Eevee can now evolve into a completely new form called Sylveon. Sylveon is Eevee's Fairy-type evolution, boasting a notably high Special Defense stat. The method to evolve into Sylveon (utilizing the Pokémon-Amie feature in Pokémon X and Y) differs from evolving Eevee into any other form. However, if done correctly, you can achieve this evolution in just 10 to 15 minutes. Note that this guide is specifically tailored for the X/Y versions. While the steps are generally similar, some locations may vary slightly. Begin with Step 1 below!
Steps

Catch an Eevee if you don’t already have one. Since Sylveon is an evolution of Eevee and cannot be caught anywhere else in the game, you’ll need to start by obtaining an Eevee. If you already have one, you can proceed to the next step. Otherwise, you’ll need to catch one yourself.
- In Pokémon X and Y, you can find Eevee on Route 10, located between Geosenge Town and Cyllage City.
- In Pokémon Sun and Moon (as well as Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon), Eevee can be caught on Akala Island, on the way to the Pokémon Ranch.
- You can also encounter Eevee in the Friend Safari, an area created using another player’s 3DS Friend Code to generate a zone with Pokémon of the same type. Since Eevee is a Normal-type, you’ll need a Friend Code for a Normal-type Safari.
- Lastly, you can obtain Eevee by trading with another player.

Teach Eevee a Fairy-type move. The first requirement for evolving Eevee into Sylveon is that it must know at least one Fairy-type move. Unlike other Fairy-type Pokémon such as Clefable, no Moonstone is needed to evolve into Sylveon.
- Eevee learns two Fairy-type moves as it levels up: Baby-doll Eyes at Level 9 and Charm at Level 29.
- Note that Eevee cannot learn any Fairy-type moves from TMs (Technical Machines).

Earn two affection hearts from Eevee in Pokémon-Amie. The second requirement for evolving into Sylveon is that Eevee must have at least two affection hearts for you in Pokémon-Amie. Pokémon-Amie is a new feature in Pokémon X and Y that allows players to bond with their Pokémon by petting, feeding, playing mini-games, and letting them interact with other Pokémon in the team. Don’t worry, this feature is also available in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire; you can find it in the PlayNav application.
- Pet and care for Eevee in Pokémon-Amie until it has at least two affection hearts before proceeding. You can do this before or after teaching it a Fairy-type move. Remember to keep the affection level between 2 and 3 hearts, as reaching maximum affection might cause Eevee to evolve into Espeon or Umbreon instead.

Level up. Once Eevee has at least two affection hearts and knows a Fairy-type move, help it level up. You can achieve this through random battles, trainer battles, and so on. After Eevee levels up and all the above conditions are met, it will immediately evolve into Sylveon. Congratulations!

Avoid mossy or icy rock areas when leveling up. When helping Eevee level up in most areas of the game, it will evolve into Sylveon if all the above conditions are met. However, there are a few notable exceptions to keep in mind. If you’re not careful, Eevee might evolve into an undesired form! Leafeon and Glaceon, two of Eevee’s evolutions, require leveling up near a mossy rock or icy rock, respectively. If you don’t level up Eevee near these specific locations, it may evolve into a different form
regardless of whether you’ve met the conditions for Sylveon. In Pokémon X and Y, the areas to avoid are:
- Route 20, where the mossy rock is located.
- Frost Cavern, where the icy rock is found.
- In Pokémon Sun and Moon (and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon), avoid the northern part of Lush Jungle due to the mossy rock, as well as the cave on Mount Lanakila.
