Why Does the PS4 Require a Proxy Server?
Check your Internet connection. If you encounter the error message "Connection to Proxy Failed" or your PS4 prompts you to enter a proxy address, the issue might be with your Internet connection. Try turning off both your PS4 and router simultaneously, then power them back on.

Check your PS4's network settings. It’s possible that your PS4 is attempting to search for a proxy server. If this is the case, simply disable this feature. On your PS4, navigate to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > your network > Custom. Choose Automatic or Do Not Specify for all settings, then select Do Not Use for the Proxy Server option. Proceed and save the settings to resolve the issue.
Switch to a wired connection if the issue persists with Wi-Fi. If the PS4 stops requesting a proxy server when connected via Ethernet, the issue might be due to the distance between your gaming console and the Wi-Fi router. Try moving the PS4 closer to the router or using a Wi-Fi extender to boost the signal.
Use a PC as a Proxy Server
Install proxy server software on your computer (optional). If you want to speed up download speeds on your PS4, you can use your PC as a proxy server by installing proxy server software. Some popular proxy tools among PS4 gamers on Reddit include CCProxy and SKFU pr0xy (both for Windows) or Squidman for macOS.
Set up the proxy software on your computer. Once the proxy server is enabled, the system will prompt you to allow the software through the firewall. After completing this step, note the IP address and port number listed in the Options section of the software.
- If the IP address is set to 0.0.0.0, select your computer’s IP address. This is the only available option in the menu for this scenario.
Turn on your PS4 and navigate to the Settings menu. The Settings app on the PS4 features a toolbox icon and is located on the far right of the main menu.
- If you want to start using a proxy server on your PS4 but don’t have an address ready, you can search online using the keyword "proxy server for PS4."
Select Network. In the PS4 Settings menu, scroll down to "Network" and click on it. This option is represented by a globe icon.
Choose Set Up Internet Connection. This is the second option from the top.
Select Use Wi-Fi or Use a LAN Cable.
Choose your Wi-Fi network. If you’re using Wi-Fi, select the network you want to connect to. Otherwise, skip this step.
Select Custom. This will give you more control over the settings, including the ability to add, modify, or disable a proxy server.
Choose Automatic on the IP Address Settings page. This ensures that the IP address is assigned by the router.
Select Do Not Specify on the DHCP Host Name page. This option tells the PS4 to retrieve DHCP server information from the router.
Choose Automatic on the MTU Settings page.
Select Use to set up a proxy server.
Enter the address and port number of the proxy server. This is the information you previously noted after launching CCProxy or another proxy software.
Save and verify the connection. After entering the proxy server details, select Test Internet Connection to ensure everything is functioning correctly. As long as the PS4 gaming console and the computer are on the same network and the proxy software is running, a "Successful" notification will appear.
