In addition to providing directions and addresses worldwide, Google Maps allows you to pinpoint the coordinates of any location. Simply choose a place and share it with yourself or others to get the exact coordinates on iPhone, iPad, Android, or the desktop version of Google Maps. It's as simple as clicking or tapping on the desired spot!
Steps
iPhone and iPad

Download and open Google Maps. Go to the App Store (iOS), search for 'Google Maps', and tap the Get/Install button next to the search result to download the app.
- Once downloaded, tap the app icon on your phone's home screen to open it.

Mark the location you want to find on the map. There are two ways to do this:
- Enter the address, location, or point you wish to find in the search bar and click the 'Search' button.
- Use your finger to navigate the map and locate your desired spot. Press and hold to mark it on the map.

Share the location using Messages. Tap the 'Dropped Pin' at the bottom of the screen and select 'Share'. Here, you can share via various methods, but using 'Messages' is the fastest way to obtain the coordinates of your chosen location.

Select the recipient and click 'Send'. You can share the location with yourself to keep track of it or send the details to a friend.
- Sharing your location with a friend allows them to know where you are (or will be) and helps them easily navigate to your spot.

Receive the shared location information. Open the text message containing the shared location details.

Click the Google Maps link. This link appears in the message after the location's address and starts with 'goo.gl/maps'.

Find the coordinates. The link will open Google Maps, and the coordinates of the shared location will appear at both the top and bottom of the screen.
- Typically, latitude will be listed before longitude.
Android

Download and open Google Maps. Go to the Play Store (Android), search for 'Google Maps', and click the Get/Install button next to the search result to download the app.

Mark the location you want to find the coordinates for. Navigate to the location on the map. Tap and hold until a red pin appears.
- You can also use the search bar to find a specific location, such as a business address or a park.

View the coordinates. After marking the location, check the search bar at the top of the screen. The coordinates of the selected location will appear in the search bar.

Share the location if you wish. Tap the 'Dropped Pin' at the bottom of your screen. Press 'Share' and select the messaging app you'd like to use, then send a message/email to yourself or another recipient.
- The shared details include the latitude and longitude of the marked spot.
- Typically, latitude is listed before longitude.
Computer

Locate the address/place you want to pinpoint using Google Maps. The map will open. Depending on your search, Google may highlight the exact location or offer several choices.
- For example, when searching for 'Starbucks Seattle', a map with multiple potential locations will appear.
- If there's no exact address, you can zoom in or out to find the location manually on the map.

Mark the spot. Click on the precise location where you want to find the coordinates.
- Once you've marked it, the coordinates will show up as part of the URL in the address bar. However, there's an easier method to retrieve this information.

Right-click the marked location and choose 'What's here?'
- On a Mac, hold down Ctrl while clicking.
- Alternatively, you can right-click directly on the location on the map.

Get coordinates information. The coordinates will appear in a rectangular box at the bottom of your screen.
- Latitude is listed before longitude.
Advice
- You can also paste the coordinate pair into the search bar of Google Maps. Google will mark the location described by those coordinates.
- Understand what latitude and longitude are. Longitude lines run from the North Pole to the South Pole and are used to determine your position in the East/West direction. Latitude lines run perpendicular to longitude lines and are used to determine your position in the North/South direction. Coordinates are measured in degrees (D), minutes (M), and seconds (S). Google Maps shows coordinates in two formats:
- Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds: DDD° MM’ SS.S’’; 42°13'08.2"N 83°44'00.9"W
- Decimal Degrees: DD.DDDDD°; 42.231039°N, 83.733584°W
- If you're using Google Maps Lite in your browser, you won't be able to view the latitude and longitude of a location. To check if you're in Lite mode, look for a lightning bolt icon in the bottom right corner of the map or go to the settings menu (☰) and scroll down to see the message: "You're in Lite mode".
Warning
- Not every location and statistic is 100% accurate.
- Coordinate calculation results may vary depending on the source.
