This article provides a step-by-step guide to help you determine if someone has blocked you on Facebook or removed you from their friends list. If you can’t locate someone’s profile, they might have blocked you or deactivated their account. However, the most reliable way to know the truth is by asking the person directly.
Steps
Use Facebook’s Search Tool

Open Facebook. You can tap the Facebook icon with the white “f” on a blue background (when using your phone) or go to the page https://www.facebook.com/ (when using a computer). You’ll see the News Feed if you’re logged in.
- If you’re not logged in, enter your registered email address and password to continue.

Select the search bar. Tap or click on the white box that says "Search" at the top of the page.

Enter the person’s name. Type in the name of the person you believe has blocked you, then choose See results for [name] (on mobile) or press ↵ Enter (on desktop).
Choose the People filter at the top of the page.
- Sometimes, the person who blocked you or deactivated their account may still show up in the All filter of search results, but will not appear in the People filter.

Look for their profile page. If you find their profile in the People filter of the search results, their account is still active, but they may have unfriended you.
- If you don’t see their profile, they might have deleted their account or blocked you so you can’t see their details. However, they might have changed their privacy settings to prevent you from finding them on Facebook.
- If their profile is visible, try tapping or clicking to view it. You may notice that their profile doesn't show as much information as it used to if you haven’t been blocked yet.
Use mutual friends list

Open Facebook. Tap the Facebook icon with the white “f” on a blue background (on mobile) or go to https://www.facebook.com/ (on a computer). You will be directed to the News Feed if you’re logged in.
- If you are not logged in, you will need to enter your registered email address and password to continue.

Go to the profile of a mutual friend. This person must be friends with the person you believe has blocked you. You can access their profile by following these steps:
- Select the Search tool.
- Type in your mutual friend’s name.
- Choose their name from the list of results.
- Click their profile picture.

Click on the Friends section. This option appears below the photo grid near the top of their profile (on mobile) or just below their cover photo (on desktop).

Tap the search bar. Click or tap the “Search Friends” bar at the top of the screen (on mobile) or in the top-right corner of the Friends page (on desktop).

Enter the name of the person you’re looking for. Type the name of the person you suspect may have blocked you. After a moment, the friends list will refresh, and the results will appear.

Search for their name. If you find their name and profile picture on the search results, it means they haven't blocked you yet.
- If you can't see their name or picture, they may have blocked you or deactivated their account. To confirm, ask mutual friends if their profile still exists.
Use messages

Open Facebook. Visit https://www.facebook.com/. You will land on the News Feed if you're logged in.
- If you're not logged in, enter your registered email and password to proceed.
- This method is effective only if you and the person you suspect of blocking you have exchanged at least one message.
- You’ll need to use the desktop version of Facebook Messenger, as the mobile app sometimes still displays blocked accounts.

Click on the message icon. It’s the chat bubble icon with a lightning bolt. You’ll find it at the top-right corner of the page. Click on it to open the list below.

Click on See All in Messenger. This link is located below the menu that just appeared. When clicked, it will open the Messenger page.

Select the conversation. Click on the conversation with the person you suspect has blocked you. The conversations are displayed in the left column of the screen.
- You may need to scroll through the list to find the conversation.

Click on ⓘ at the top right of the chat window. When you click on it, an additional window will appear on the right side of the conversation.

Look for the link to their profile. If you don't see a link under the "Facebook Profile" header, it means they have done one of the following:
- They've blocked you. If someone blocks you, you won’t be able to reply to their messages or visit their profile.
- They've deactivated their account. This also happens when someone deactivates their account.
Find out if they've deactivated their account
Ask a mutual friend. If you can't access the profile of the person you think has blocked you, try reaching out to another mutual friend and ask if their Facebook account is still active. If your friend confirms that the account is still functioning, it means they've blocked you on Facebook.
- This is the only way to confirm if someone has blocked you without directly asking, though some may see it as an invasion of privacy.

Check other social networks. If you follow the person on platforms like Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, or other social sites, try searching to see if their account is still accessible. This can help you determine if they've blocked you on those platforms as well.
- Alternatively, look for any signs that indicate they’ve deactivated their Facebook account. Many people will announce on other social networks that they’ve closed their Facebook account.

Reach out directly to the person. Ultimately, the most straightforward way to confirm whether someone has blocked you is to ask them directly. If you choose this route, ensure your approach is respectful and not confrontational. Prepare yourself for the possibility that they may confirm you’ve been blocked.
- This method should be used as a last resort – for instance, if a close friend has blocked you, it’s better to reach out and try to resolve things. If not, you may need to accept the situation and move forward with your life.
Tip
- Many users opt to hide their profiles from Google search results. Adjusting privacy settings also helps prevent strangers or people who aren’t mutual friends from searching for them on Facebook.
Warning
Sometimes, information about the person who blocked you still appears in the Messenger app on your phone. You won’t be able to message them, but their profile picture might still be visible. Therefore, it’s recommended to use the desktop version of Facebook Messenger if you need to check someone’s Facebook account.
