Today, Mytour will guide you on how to locate the model number of your HP laptop. You can use this number to confirm specific product details with support staff or to ensure hardware components (like the battery) are compatible with your laptop.
Steps
Using System Information

Hold the ⊞ Win key and press R. The 'Run' dialog box will open on all Windows computers.
- On a personal computer running Windows 7 or later, you can right-click the Start menu and select Run.

Type msinfo32 in the search bar next to the "Open:" label in the Run dialog box.

Click on the OK. The Windows System Information utility will open, providing detailed specifications of your computer.

Look for the "System SKU" entry near the middle of the System Information page. The model number of your HP laptop will be displayed next to the "System SKU" label.
- Additionally, the "System Model" section beside it will show the name of your computer.

Record the SKU number. Provide this information to a technician or use it as a keyword to search for compatible drivers or hardware for your system.
Based on the product label

Shut down the computer. On all versions of Windows, you can press and hold the power button until the machine turns off completely.
- Make sure you have saved and closed all open work before shutting down the computer.
- On Windows Vista and later versions, click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the screen, select the power button, and choose Shut down.

Disconnect all power cables to prevent electrical hazards while removing the battery from the device.

Flip the laptop over and remove the battery. In most cases, you will need to slide a switch either left or right, hold it in place, and gently slide the battery out.
- If the underside of the laptop has a label with product information, there is no need to remove the battery.

Locate the "Product" label in the information provided. This label is usually placed separately from the "Regulatory" section. Next to the "Product" label, you'll find a series of letters and numbers, which represent the model number of your HP laptop.
- If the "Product" label is missing, look for the "Serial" label. Although the model number is different from the serial number, it is often located somewhere beneath the serial number.

Write down the model number. If you need technical support for your laptop, provide this number to the technician to expedite the repair process.
