No matter if you curled your hair yourself, visited a salon, or had a friend help, a curly hairstyle that doesn’t turn out right can be a real headache. While a "disastrous" curly look can ruin your mood, and in some cases even damage both your hair and scalp, there are plenty of professional and natural solutions you can try to fix this disaster.
Steps
Try Professional Solutions

Use a deep moisturizing conditioner. This type of conditioner effectively hydrates curly hair, reduces dryness, and somewhat improves the condition of the curls.

Apply a wave-curling product to straighten your hair. If you want to style your curly hair by straightening it, it’s essential to deeply moisturize your hair before applying heat. This should be done the day before you straighten your hair. Additionally, using hair care products daily helps restore moisture and seal the essential cuticle layer of your hair.

Ask your hairstylist to re-curl your hair on a different day or try a new haircut. You should only recurl your hair after a few weeks to avoid further damage. A hairstylist might suggest a more effective solution: cutting your current hair short. Cutting your hair may be the only real way to fix the "disastrous" curls, as the damaged sections will be removed.
Apply Natural Methods

Apply mustard seed oil to your hair. This solution softens the curls, making it easier for you to style your hair differently. However, you’ll need to repeat the process for a few weeks to see results if the curls don’t loosen up after the first treatment.
- You will need: a bottle of mustard seed oil, plastic wrap, a towel, a mild shampoo, conditioner, a hairdryer with a diffuser, and styling comb.
- Bend your head over a sink, washbasin, or bathtub, and evenly apply the mustard seed oil from root to tip.
- Wrap your hair in plastic wrap or a plastic bag. Then, wrap a towel around your head to retain heat and prevent the oil from dripping.
- Leave the oil in for 1-2 minutes, then rinse it out. Use a mild shampoo to remove any remaining oil.
- Make sure to apply conditioner and leave it for at least 2 minutes, then rinse it out and repeat the process until no oil remains.
- Follow this routine for at least one week.

Create a coconut oil hair mask. Coconut oil is the only oil that penetrates the hair shaft rather than just coating the outside. This allows it to moisturize, nourish, and effectively repair damage from the inside out.
- Melt 1 cup of pure organic coconut oil. You can use a microwave (just make sure to place the coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl) or melt it on the stove by placing the jar of oil in half a pot of water. Heat the pot until the oil melts.
- Add ½ teaspoon of essential oils beneficial for dry and damaged hair, such as bay, cedarwood, chamomile, sage, eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender, lemon, resin, rose, sandalwood, and tea tree.
- Mix the coconut oil and essential oils with your fingers, then apply it to dry hair and comb it through.
- Wrap your hair with a towel or shower cap. Leave the oil in your hair for 1-2 hours.
- Rinse out the oil with shampoo and conditioner.

Trim the ends of your curly hair or any uneven curls. Using rollers incorrectly is a common cause of "disastrous" curly hair. If you have extremely straight or coarse hair, your curls might not wrap tightly around the roller. This can leave the ends of your hair straight. However, you can fix this issue by patiently trimming the uneven sections with scissors.
Warning
- Avoid using hair straightening chemicals to fix curly hair. In the first week after curling, your hair will be in a fragile state, and using additional chemicals will only cause more damage.
