It's game day! You're all decked out with face paint and your foam finger, but what about those peeling letters on your jersey? If your favorite jersey is showing signs of wear, don't worry! This guide will walk you through the process of reattaching plastic lettering with either an iron or fabric glue to get you ready to cheer on your team.
Steps
Using an Iron

Place the jersey on an ironing board. Lay your jersey flat on an ironing board with the plastic lettering facing upwards. Smooth the fabric as much as possible before you begin.
- Ensure the lettering is as flat as possible. If any corners are lifting, press them down firmly onto the fabric.
- The ironing technique is especially effective for plastic and vinyl letters.

Set your iron to medium heat without steam. To reattach your letters, you'll only need the heat, not the steam. Allow your iron to heat up for a couple of minutes.
- Iron settings vary by model, but most irons use numbers to represent the temperature. If yours does, set it to level 3.
Cover the lettering with a plain sheet of paper. A sheet of paper will shield the letters on your jersey from excessive heat. Place a plain white piece of paper on top of the letters you're fixing.
- Use only plain white paper—lined paper could leave ink marks on your jersey.
- If you don't have paper, a thin cotton towel will also work.

Iron over the lettering to smooth out the edges. Hold the iron and gently press it over the letters on your jersey. Move the iron quickly back and forth, ensuring you don't stay in one spot too long. Iron over all the lettering, paying close attention to any edges that may be peeling up.
- Keep the iron flat against the paper to avoid any creases.

Remove the paper while the lettering is still hot. Once you've ironed the lettering, swiftly peel off the paper to avoid it sticking to the letters. Now you have a jersey that looks as good as new!
Using Fabric Glue
-
Lay the jersey flat on a smooth surface. If your jersey needs a wash, clean it before starting. Spread it out with the lettering facing up, and smooth out any wrinkles or bumps in the fabric.
-
Apply a small amount of fabric glue beneath the edge of the letter. Gently lift the corner of the letter, and apply a small dot of fabric glue directly onto the jersey where the letter needs to be attached.
-
Press the letter firmly into place. Gently press the letter down onto the glue, holding it in place for a few seconds to ensure it sticks. If any glue oozes out, quickly wipe it off before it dries.
-
Use an iron with a thick towel over the lettering. Ironing will help the glue set and keep the letters flat while they dry. Place your jersey on an ironing board, then cover the letters with a thick towel. Set the iron to its highest setting and press down for about 30 seconds.
-
Allow the fabric glue to dry before wearing the jersey. For the best results, let the jersey rest flat for about 24 hours before wearing it again. This ensures the glue fully bonds with the fabric, keeping the lettering in place for a longer time.
- Washing your jersey? No worries! Fabric glue is washable and durable. Just wash your jersey like normal once it gets dirty.
-
The heat from a dryer can damage the lettering on your jersey. Going forward, consider air-drying your jersey after washing to maintain its pristine condition.
