Steps
Folding an Origami Paper Heart

Fold a square sheet of paper diagonally and then unfold it. Place the paper so that it forms a diamond shape. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner. Crease the fold and then unfold it.
- If you don't have square paper, you can cut a rectangular sheet into a square.

Fold a square diagonally from the top left to the bottom right, then unfold it. Fold the left corner over to align with the right corner. Press the crease and unfold it again.
- After this step, the square sheet of paper will have two perpendicular creases.
Fold the top corner of the square down to the center of the paper. Keep the paper at a diamond angle. The top corner should meet the intersection of the two diagonal folds. Press the fold down.
Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top edge of the folded shape. The bottom corner will touch the middle of the top edge of the folded shape. Press the crease.
Fold both the left and right corners up to the top edge of the folded shape. These two corners will meet the middle of the top edge, where the bottom corner touched in the previous step. Press the folds after completing both corners.
- At this point, the square paper should resemble a heart shape.
Flip the paper over and fold the corners inward to hide the sharp points. First, fold the left and right corners inwards. Then, fold the top corners down. Do not fold the bottom corner.
- Now, you've completed the paper heart! Flip it over and admire your work!
Folding a 2-D Paper Heart
Fold the square sheet of paper in half horizontally, then unfold it. Place the paper flat on the surface in front of you. Fold the top edge down to align with the bottom edge. Press the crease firmly.
- If you don’t have a square sheet, use scissors to cut a rectangular sheet into a square.
Fold the paper in half vertically, then unfold it. Fold the left edge over to meet the right edge. Press the crease and then unfold it.
Fold the paper along both diagonals, then unfold it. First, fold the top left corner down to the bottom right corner. Press the crease and unfold. Next, fold the top right corner down to meet the bottom left corner. Press the crease and unfold.
- By now, you should have four long creases intersecting at the center of the paper.
Fold the top and bottom edges to the center, then unfold them. Fold both the top and bottom edges to meet in the middle crease of the paper. Press both creases, then unfold them.
Fold the left and right edges towards the center, then unfold them. Just like you did with the top and bottom edges, fold the left and right sides so they meet at the center of the paper. Press the creases, then unfold.
Rotate the paper, then fold the top and bottom corners towards the center. Rotate the paper so it looks like a diamond. Fold the top corner down and the bottom corner up so that they meet at the center crease. Press the folds and leave them as they are.
- At this point, the shape will have six points.
Fold all six corners into the center and smooth them down. Fold the left and right corners towards the center of the paper. Simultaneously, fold the top corners down along the diagonal creases. Fold the bottom corners up along the diagonal creases. Press the folds and leave them as they are.
- To flatten the shape, fold it along the horizontal crease so the top and bottom edges move away from you. The crease should be facing you.
- Once flattened, the folded shape will start to resemble a heart.
Create an inward fold, then make an outward fold at the left corner. An inward fold is when you fold towards yourself, while an outward fold is when you fold away from yourself.
- First, fold the left corner into the center and press down to create an inward fold.
- Afterward, unfold it and fold it backward along the previous crease to create an outward fold. Press it down again and unfold.

Flip the heart shape so that the fold you just made faces you. Hold the shape with both hands, each hand placed on either side of the fold you are looking at.
Pull the two sides of the folded shape outward until you see a square crease. This square crease will be near the center of the paper, at the point where you folded the left corner in the previous steps.
- There will be two creases at right angles to each other, intersecting at the center of the square.

Create outward creases along the edges of the square, then fold it back together. Remember, an outward crease is when you fold away from yourself. After creating four outward creases along the square's four edges, push the left and right sides toward each other to flatten the shape.
- As you push the sides together, the square will automatically fold back into place and will be tucked inside the flattened shape. If it doesn't fold on its own, you can press down in the center with your fingers.
Rotate the folded shape and fold the three left corners using outward creases. Now, you’ll face the front side of the shape again.
- The outward creases help conceal the three corners and soften the edges, making the heart shape appear rounder.
Repeat steps 8-12 on the right side. This time, you’ll create outward and inward creases at the right corner instead of the left. Find the square creases on the right side of the shape, fold them to hide the square inside, and then fold the three corners using outward creases to round out the heart’s edges.
- Once you finish folding the right side, your heart is complete!
