With approximately 6,000 open access books—licensed openly, meeting academic standards, peer-reviewed prior to publication, and categorized into 17 major subject areas, DOAB offers a significant resource. This is especially valuable if your university library lacks sufficient materials for faculty, students, and researchers.

The OAPEN Foundation is an international initiative dedicated to the publication of Open Access monographs, based at the National Library in The Hague. DOAB is being developed in close collaboration with Lars Bjørnshauge and Salam Baker Shanawa (director of SemperTool), who were also responsible for the development of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
