As you browse through Bumble profiles, one particular person stands out—what's the best way to express your interest? That's where compliments come into play. Introduced in 2022, Bumble's compliments feature allows users to send compliments based on a person's photos, bio, or prompts. To send a compliment, click the yellow heart icon inside a speech bubble on someone's profile (located at the bottom left of their photos, bio, or prompts). If you're receiving compliments, you can find them in your potential match feed or, with a premium subscription, in your Beeline.

How to Give Compliments on Bumble
Locate the heart-shaped icon on a user’s photos, bio, or profile prompts. Before sending a compliment, decide which part of their profile you’d like to highlight (pictures, bio, or prompts). Then, click on the yellow icon with a heart in a speech bubble, located at the bottom left of the section you want to compliment.
- Anyone can send compliments on Bumble, but they count as right swipes—and you only get a limited number of free right swipes per day, depending on whether you're subscribed to the app's premium services.
Keep your compliment under 150 characters. Once you click on the yellow icon, a text box will appear for you to write your compliment. Since space is limited, keep it concise! Write a message that stays within Bumble’s 150-character limit, then hit the yellow “Send” button at the bottom right of the text box to send your compliment.
- Congrats—you’ve made the first move by complimenting someone on Bumble!
- If you manage to match with someone after sending a compliment, it counts as initiating a conversation.
- If they don’t respond, you won’t be able to message them unless they reply to your compliment.
Reserve your compliments for profiles that truly catch your eye! You’re allowed only 2 free compliments per week, so use them wisely unless you're ready to pay for more (or wait until next week’s refresh). When the compliments feature launched, users could send just 1 per day, but this changed in 2024.
- If you decide to purchase more compliments, just start typing a compliment and hit “Send.” You’ll be prompted to complete your purchase from there.
- Compliments you buy will never expire, even if you don’t use them right away.
- Current prices for purchasing compliments are: 2 compliments for $10, 5 for $20, 15 for $40, or 30 for $60.
How to Craft Bumble Compliments
Be specific with your compliment. Instead of just saying “You’re cute!” or “Nice pics!”, focus on something unique about their profile and mention it in your message. It shows you’re genuinely interested and that you've thought about why they caught your attention. Sample compliments could be:

Give compliments in a fun, engaging way. When you’re complimenting something specific on someone's profile, get creative with your words. Add personality and provide them with something interesting to respond to if they want to continue the conversation. The more memorable and distinctive your compliment is, the higher your chances of receiving a reply! Examples include:
- “I love your taste in films! There’s a line from The Princess Bride that’s stuck in my head forever.”
- “Wow, your travel photos are stunning! I’d love to know what it’s like to visit Scotland.”
- “You have excellent music taste! I’m also a big Paramore fan—I saw them live a couple of months ago and it was mind-blowing! 🤯”
Follow up with a question after your compliment. Compliments can also be great conversation starters! Dating expert Laura Bilotta suggests that “Asking a question shows you're genuinely interested in getting to know the other person, helping the conversation flow.” Find something to ask—whether it's about their favorite vacation spot, TV show, or hobbies. Some examples could be:
- “I love the The Office quotes on your profile! Do you have a favorite episode?”

How to View & Check Your Bumble Compliments
You can find compliments in your potential match feed. When someone sends you a compliment, their profile will appear in your potential match feed, along with the compliment. If you like the compliment (and the rest of their profile), swipe right to match just like you normally would.
- If you swipe right, the compliment will appear in your chat, and you'll have 24 hours to reply. After that, your match will expire.

View your compliments in your Bumble Beeline. Whenever someone compliments you, a notification will appear on the gray heart icon at the bottom of your screen. By clicking it, you’ll be taken to your Beeline, where you can unlock up to 5 compliments per day and see a condensed version of the sender’s profile.
- To unlock more than 5 compliments, you’ll need Bumble’s premium subscription, which offers unlimited Beeline access.
- The Beeline shows people who have swiped right on you but whom you haven't swiped right on yet.
