Hacking a Gmail account can be a useful solution if you've forgotten your account password. It's also an efficient way to test the security of your account. There are several methods you can try to gain access, most of which involve retrieving the password through various means. Hacking someone else's Gmail account is illegal.
Steps
Manage your expectations

Understand the limitations of this method. Gmail is a highly secure service. The only way you could hack someone else's account is by stealing their password. If the target is using two-step verification, you'll need their mobile device as well. With this method, there is no other alternative.

Understand the law. Accessing someone else's email account without permission is illegal in most places. This article is provided for informational purposes only.
Using a Keylogger

Find a keylogger program that suits your needs. A keylogger is a program that records keystrokes on a computer. There are many free and paid keylogger programs available online. Be sure to carefully research your options. Here are some popular programs:
- Actual Keylogger
- Spyrix Free Keylogger
- BlackBox Express
- KidLogger
- NetBull
- Lola

Install the keylogger on the target computer. To install this program, you need administrator access. On many computers, the password may be "admin" or blank.
- Each keylogger program will have a different installation process.
- Installing a keylogger without permission is illegal.

Activate the keylogger service. Start the service to begin recording keystrokes. The process will vary depending on the program. You will need to find the shortcut key if the program has multiple functions.

Activate the keylogger when the target uses the computer. The keylogger will record a lot of information. You can filter through the window where the user is typing text.

Check the logs. Some keylogger programs will send the logs to an email address. Others save the files on the computer where the program is installed. Review the logs for the section where you think the Gmail password might be. You can filter through the Gmail login page.
- If the keylogger doesn't send the logs via email, you need to access the program on the computer you installed it on to view the logs.
Use the Browser's Password Manager

Open the web browser the target uses on the computer. You must have access to their computer. Try to access it when they step out or have some private time.
- Open the link from an email or the Help menu to launch the default browser.

Open the password manager. The process of accessing the password manager varies by browser.
- Internet Explorer - Click on the gear icon or the Tools menu and select "Internet Options". Click on the "Content" tab and select "Settings" under the AutoComplete section. Choose "Manage Passwords" in the new window.
- Chrome - Click on the menu icon in Chrome (☰) and select "Settings". Click on "Show advanced settings" and scroll down to find "Passwords and forms". Click on "Manage passwords".
- Firefox - Click on the menu icon in Firefox (☰) and select "Options". Click on the "Security" tab and then select "Saved Passwords".
- Safari - Click on the Safari menu and select "Preferences". Click on the "Passwords" tab.

Find the password for the Google account you're targeting. Use the search bar in the password manager to search for the keyword "google". This is the fastest way to narrow down the password list. Look for the line "accounts.google.com" associated with the Gmail address you're targeting.

Show the password. Select the password and click on "Show" or "Show Password". You may need to enter the administrator password before you can view it.

Copy the password and close the password manager. Write down the password and the Gmail address. Close the password manager once you're done to erase any traces.

Test the password on another computer. If the target doesn't have two-step verification enabled, you can access the account. The target will be notified if someone logs into their account from an unfamiliar browser.
- If two-step verification is enabled, you'll need the code sent to the mobile device to log in. There's no other way around this if they have this feature activated.
Use a Packet Sniffer

Understand the process. When someone logs into Gmail (or any other service), the computer receives a file known as a "cookie". This cookie allows the user to remain logged in even if they aren't accessing Gmail. A Packet Sniffer can detect the cookie being transmitted through a wireless network. Once you find the Gmail cookie, you can open it on your computer and access the target's inbox. You must be on the same network as the target.
- This method won't be effective if the target has enabled encryption. (https) This feature is enabled by default on Gmail, limiting its usefulness.
- Using a Packet Sniffer on a public network to intercept traffic is illegal.

Download and install Wireshark. Wireshark is a free network monitoring tool that you can download from wireshark.org. The software supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. Installing Wireshark is simple, just follow the on-screen instructions.
- During installation, don't forget to install the TShark component. This is a crucial part for capturing cookies over wireless networks. You also need to install "WinPcap".

Download Cookie Cadger. This Java program helps find and block cookies transmitted over wireless networks. No installation is required for Cookie Cadger, and it works on all operating systems.
- You need to have Java 7 installed to use Cookie Cadger. You can download Java from java.com/download. See How to install Java for more details.

Connect to the same wireless network as the target. You need to connect to the same wireless network that the target is using. This means you must be physically close to the target.

Start Wireshark. Wireshark must be running for Cookie Cadger to work.

Activate Cookie Cadger and select the wireless router. Choose the router connected to the wireless network from the dropdown menu. You will see the unsecured cookies of the network users on the main screen.

Use the domain filter to locate Google's cookies. The second column will display a list of domains Cookie Cadger is scanning for cookies. Look for the Google domain in the form of mail.google.com.
- Remember, this method is only effective if the target is not using https. This is a secure connection, and you won’t be able to find the cookies.

Click "Replay This Request" once you've found the Gmail cookie. This action will load the cookie into your web browser. If you choose the correct cookie, you will gain access to the target's inbox.
- You won't be able to access Gmail if the user has logged out.
