Have you ever had the misfortune of your tongue getting stuck to frozen metal? The best solution in this situation is not to forcefully pull your tongue away! Instead, you should warm up the metal so your tongue can be freed. No matter how this happens, there are several ways to handle the situation easily and without pain.
Steps
Assess the Situation

Don’t Panic! The worst thing you can do is try to pull your tongue off the metal in panic, as this could cause serious damage. Instead, take a moment to think carefully about your situation. Look around to see if anyone is nearby who can assist you.
- If someone is with you, let them know that you’re not joking and that your tongue is really stuck to the metal.

Understand why the tongue sticks to metal. Simply put, the tongue gets stuck because saliva freezes when it comes into contact with cold metal. This happens more quickly on metal than other surfaces because metal is an excellent conductor of heat. To release your tongue from the metal, you need to warm it up.

Proceed to remove the tongue from the frozen metal

Pour warm water on the tongue and metal. Gently pour water over the tongue, making sure it reaches the area where the tongue is in contact with the metal. This will increase the temperature of the metal and warm up the saliva.
- Be sure to use water that isn’t too hot to avoid further injury to the tongue.
- Pour the water slowly. You should pour it gently and steadily to ensure the warmth gradually melts the cold.

Use your hand to detach the tongue from the metal. If your tongue isn't stuck too tightly, you can gently pull it off. However, if it hurts to do so, stop and try another method.
- Twist the tongue and gently pull to free it from the metal.

Take a deep breath and blow hot air onto your tongue. Keep the hot air flowing continuously until the tongue is no longer stuck. You can also hold your hands around your mouth to trap the warm air around the tongue.
- Repeat this process until the metal is warm enough to release the tongue.
Tips
- Never let your tongue touch metal in freezing weather! It's best to avoid situations like this altogether.
Warnings
- Trying to detach the tongue from frozen metal can be extremely painful. Avoid attempting it!
