If using a regular eyelash curler doesn't give you the look you want, try heating it up to achieve longer, more curled lashes. Typically, you should curl your lashes after completing your eye makeup, whether you're using a manual or battery-powered curler. Heating the curler is easy and highly effective.
Steps
Heating a Traditional Eyelash Curler

Clean the curler with soap and water. Apply makeup remover or soap (preferably one for sensitive skin) to the pad and metal parts of the curler using a cloth or cotton pad to remove any makeup. Then, rinse the soap off with water.
- If there’s makeup residue on the pad, your mascara may clump on your lashes.

Use a hair dryer to heat the eyelash curler. Direct the nozzle of the hair dryer towards the curler for about 10-20 seconds. Choose a dryer with a narrow nozzle and always aim it at the curler’s clamp. Then, allow the curler to cool slightly before handling.
- Be cautious when touching the metal part of the curler, as it can get very hot and may burn your skin.

Dip the curler in hot water if you don’t have a hair dryer. After submerging the curler in water for 10-20 seconds, remove it and let it cool slightly before using.

Test the curler’s heat by touching the back of your hand. Hold the curler against your hand for 3-5 seconds. If it's too hot, wait 10-20 seconds for it to cool down before trying again.
- If the curler is too hot for your skin, don’t use it on your lashes until it cools.

Curl your lashes. Gently curl the lashes on each eye 2-3 times, starting from the inner corner and working your way out for a natural curl.
- Once your lashes are curled, apply mascara to add length and volume.
Using an Electric or Battery-Powered Curler

Clean the curler with rubbing alcohol. For safety, turn off the electric curler before applying alcohol to a cotton pad and wiping down the curler, especially the parts that come in contact with your lashes and may have makeup residue.
- Do not use water or soap. Water can damage the curler.

Prepare the necessary tools for the eyelash curler. If your curler uses batteries, check if the batteries are still working. If you’re using an electric curler, make sure it’s plugged in and ready to go.
- Most battery-operated curlers require three AAA batteries.

Follow the instructions to turn on the battery-powered curler. Some battery-powered curlers need you to hold the "On" button until it reaches the desired temperature, while most just require flipping the switch to turn it on.

Wait for the curler to cool. Before using the curler, test the temperature by placing it on the back of your hand. If it’s too hot, wait 10-20 seconds before trying again.

Curl your lashes. Gently curl each lash 2-3 times, starting from the base and working outwards for a natural-looking curl. Then, apply mascara to enhance length and volume.
Warning
- Before using the eyelash curler, try placing it on your skin first to check the fit.
- Always ensure that the eyelash curler has cooled down after heating.
