Instagram offers a fascinating way to enjoy the artistic perspectives of friends, family, celebrities, or even complete strangers. Seeing your follower count drop without knowing the reason can be frustrating, especially when you can't pinpoint who unfollowed you. Although Instagram doesn't notify you about who unfollowed you, there are still methods to uncover this information.
Steps
Online
Find an Instagram monitoring website. Believe it or not, numerous online platforms make it easy to track who has unfollowed you. These sites operate on a basic principle: they download your follower list into their database, and when you request an update, they compare the current list with the previous one. If a name is missing, the site identifies that person as the one who unfollowed you. Here are a few suitable websites for this purpose—there are many others out there:
- Unfollowers.com: A user-friendly site with a simple interface (also capable of monitoring Twitter accounts).
- Justunfollow.com: This site offers additional tools to manage large follower counts, including the ability to add followers to a 'whitelist' or 'blacklist'.
- Insta.friendorfollow.com: A straightforward site, ideal for beginners, allowing you to check who you follow but who doesn't follow you back.
- The sites mentioned above are excellent, but for the purpose of this article, we'll focus on Unfollowgram, a popular service among users who want to monitor their Instagram followers (available at unfollowgram.com). Note that all these sites function similarly, so you can apply the steps for using Unfollowgram to other platforms as well.

Create an account. Go to unfollowgram.com and click on "Login with Instagram." You’ll need to enter your Instagram username and password. On your first login, a pop-up will appear asking for permission to access your Instagram account. Click the green authorize button to proceed.
- If your Instagram account is linked to Facebook and you’re already logged into Facebook, your login details might be auto-filled.
- Finally, provide an email address when prompted to complete the account setup.

Click on "Who Unfollowed Me." Once your account is set up, finding out who unfollowed you is straightforward—just click the corresponding button at the top of the screen. You’ll be taken to a page showing a list of users who have unfollowed you since you created your Unfollowgram account. However, since you’ve just signed up, this list will be empty.
- There’s no way to identify users who unfollowed you before creating your Unfollowgram account. Unfollowgram only accesses your follower list after you log in and grant permission, so it can’t track past unfollowers. The same applies to other Instagram monitoring tools.

Explore additional features for your new account. Unfollowgram isn’t just for tracking unfollowers—it also helps manage other metrics. Here are some options available on the Unfollowgram navigation bar:
- Who Doesn't Follow Me Back: A list of Instagram users you follow who don’t follow you back. You can unfollow anyone on this list by clicking the "Unfollow" button.
- Who I Don't Follow Back: This is the opposite—a list of users who follow you but you don’t follow back. If you decide to follow them, click the "Follow" button next to their profile picture.
- Followers: A complete list of users who follow you, identical to the list on the Instagram app. Click on a user’s profile picture to visit their profile.
- Following: A full list of users you’re following. You can unfollow them or click on their profile picture to view their profile.

Refresh metrics for real-time updates. Every time you reload, Unfollowgram updates with the latest data. If there are changes since the last update—like new followers or unfollowers—the page will reflect them immediately. You don’t need to use the browser’s refresh button; simply update the database by clicking the "Check" button at the top right corner of the screen. Within seconds, you’ll know who’s unfollowed you!
On Mobile Devices

Find an Instagram follower tracking app in the app store. Since you’re using a mobile device to access Instagram, there are resources available to identify who has recently unfollowed you. Unlike the web version, you’ll need to download an app, but once installed, you can use it whenever needed. Here are some recommended apps for popular mobile platforms:
- For Apple iOS, the "Followers on Instagram Free" app by Sepia Software LLC is highly rated and, as the name suggests, completely free.
- For Android, the "Follower Tracker for Instagram" app by 2 Creative Monsters LLC is an excellent solution, easily accessible on the Play Store.
- For Windows Phone, the "UnfollowSpy" app by Elliott Forde offers options for both Instagram and Twitter.

Download and install the app. Once you’ve found the right app in the app store, download it (the apps mentioned above are free). Wait for the installation to complete, then open the app.
- We’ll use the Follower Tracker for Instagram app on Android as an example. Most Instagram monitoring apps work similarly, so you can follow the steps outlined here.

Provide your Instagram account information. Similar to the online method mentioned earlier, any mobile Instagram follower tracking app requires your login credentials to access data. Enter your username and password when prompted after launching the app.
- On the next screen, if asked, agree to grant the app access to your Instagram account information. The app cannot access your follower list without your permission, so you’ll need to approve this for the app to function.

Select "Followers Lost" to see users who have unfollowed you. Once the app is running, the rest is straightforward. Simply tap the "Followers Lost" button to see which users have stopped following you since you started using the app. Like the previous method, the app only begins monitoring your Instagram followers after installation, so you won’t know who unfollowed you before that.
- Note the "Clear" button at the top of the screen—tap this to reset the Followers Lost list.
Tips
- Understanding who follows and unfollows you can be intriguing, but it's essential not to obsess over it. Instead of worrying about those who have moved on, focus on attracting new followers who align with your interests and goals.
- Keep in mind that linking your Instagram monitoring app to your Twitter account might result in automatic tweets of your metrics. While this feature is typically enabled by default, you can disable it by navigating to the 'Settings' or 'Options' menu, depending on the application you're using.
