To use files on OpenShot's timeline, you must first import them into your project. There are several ways to import files, with the most popular method being dragging and dropping files from your computer into the Project Files section of the interface.

4 Methods to Import Files into an OpenShot Project

Method 1 - Drag & Drop.
- Launch OpenShot.
- Drag and drop multiple files simultaneously from your computer into the Project Files tree.
Method 2 - Drop a Folder.
- Launch OpenShot.
- Drag and drop a folder containing files from your computer into the Project Files tree (all audio, video, and image files within the folder will be imported).
Method 3 - Open With.
- While browsing files in GNOME, select one or multiple files.
- Right-click on the selected files and choose Open With Other Application….
- Select OpenShot Video Editor (or type the command openshot). Even after starting work in OpenShot with your files, you can return to the file system, right-click on additional files, and select OpenShot to add them to the currently running project.
