Today, Mytour will show you how to insert a data chart into your Microsoft Word document.
Steps
Insert a Chart into Word

Open your Microsoft Word document. To get started, you can double-click on an existing Word document, or open Microsoft Word and select a file from the Recent section.
- If you're working with a new document, simply open Microsoft Word and click on Blank document.

Click on the location where you want to insert the chart in your document. The cursor will blink at the spot you just clicked, which is where the chart will be displayed later.
- For example, if you click below a paragraph, that will be the location where the chart is inserted.

Click on the Insert tab at the top of the Word page, located to the right of the Home tab.

Click on Chart option. This option, represented by several colored bars, can be found just below the Insert tab.

Click on a chart type. This option will appear on the left side of the pop-up Chart window.
- Some common chart formats include line (Line), column (Column), and pie (Pie) charts.
- You can customize the chart format by clicking on the options available at the top of the format window.

Click on OK. The chart will be inserted into the document.
- A small Excel window with cells will also appear for you to input data.
Add data to the chart

Click on a cell in the Excel window. The cell will be selected, and you can input data points there.
- The values in column "A" represent the data for the X-axis of the chart.
- Each value in row "1" represents a line or bar (e.g., "B1" is a line or bar, "C1" is another, and so on).
- Values outside column "A" and row "1" represent other data points for the Y-axis.
- All the data you enter in the Excel cells will be reflected on the chart.

Enter numbers or labels.

Press ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return. The data will be entered into the cell, and then you can proceed to the next one.

Repeat this process for each data point. As you enter the data, the chart will update accordingly.

Click the X button at the top-right corner of the Excel window. This will close the window and save any changes made to the chart.
- You can reopen the Excel window at any time by clicking on the chart.
Tip
- In versions of Word prior to 2010, the Excel window will appear outside of Microsoft Word as a completely new Excel document.
Warning
- Don’t forget to save your current session!
