Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of installing a SIM card into your iPhone. To ensure your new SIM works seamlessly, make sure it is compatible with your current service provider or use an unlocked iPhone SIM.
Steps
Inserting a SIM Card into an iPhone
Power off your iPhone. Press and hold the power button until the "slide to power off" or "trượt để tắt nguồn" prompt appears on the screen, then swipe the slider to the right to turn it off.
- For most iPhones, the power button is located on the top right edge, but for iPhone 5 and later models, it is situated on the top side of the device.
Ensure the SIM card size matches your phone. Over the years, SIM cards have become smaller, and older iPhone models may not support newer SIM types (and vice versa). Make sure the SIM card fits the iPhone you are using.
- iPhone 5 and later models use Nano SIM (12.3mm x 8.8mm).
- iPhone 4 and 4S use Micro SIM (15mm x 12mm).
- iPhone 3G, 3GS, and the original iPhone use Standard SIM (25mm x 15mm).
Locate the SIM tray on the side of the phone. The SIM tray is typically found on the side of the device. For most iPhones, it is positioned around the middle of the right edge.
- iPhone 3G, 3GS, and the original iPhone have the SIM slot on the top of the device.
- All iPhone models feature a SIM tray, except the iPhone 4 CDMA (A1349, carrier-locked to Verizon/Sprint in the U.S.).
Find the SIM eject tool or a straightened paperclip. Many phones come with a SIM eject tool, a small pin with a pointed end that allows you to open the SIM tray. If you don’t have the tool, a straightened paperclip can serve as a substitute.
Insert the SIM eject tool or paperclip into the small hole next to the SIM tray. Gently push, and the SIM tray will pop out.
Pull the SIM tray out of the phone. Handle it carefully, as both the tray and the SIM card are delicate.
Remove the old SIM card and place the new one into the tray. To ensure the SIM is recognized, it must be inserted in the correct orientation. If unsure, align the new SIM the same way as the original, with the gold contact surface facing downward.
Reinsert the SIM tray into the phone. The tray can only be inserted in one direction.
- Make sure the SIM tray is fully seated inside the iPhone before proceeding.
Press the power button. The phone will restart. Your iPhone will automatically connect to the new mobile network, though you may be prompted to complete activation.
Troubleshooting SIM Activation Issues
Connect to a wireless network. Depending on your mobile plan, the activation prompt may not appear until you connect to Wi-Fi.
Connect your iPhone to iTunes on a computer. If your iPhone cannot activate via Wi-Fi, using a computer with an internet connection can facilitate the activation process. To proceed:
- Plug your iPhone into the computer using the USB charging cable. If the program doesn’t launch automatically, open iTunes manually.
- Wait for iTunes to activate the SIM for you.
Restore your iPhone. If your iPhone simply doesn’t recognize the SIM card, restoring the device might trigger the SIM activation during the reset process.
Use another phone to contact your carrier. If your phone fails to activate the new SIM, the only solution is to call your carrier (e.g., Viettel, Vinaphone, or Mobiphone). After verifying your account ownership, you can inquire about the new SIM. If the issue is more complex and cannot be resolved over the phone, visit a carrier store for further diagnostics or setup assistance.
