How to Insert Images into a PDF File

Visit https://smallpdf.com/edit-pdf. If you want to insert an image into an existing PDF file, you can do so for free using an online PDF editor like Smallpdf.com.

• This method allows you to add an image to the PDF content, but you won’t be able to edit any existing text or formatting in the file.

Click on Choose file (Select File). This option is located within the green box at the top of the screen.

Select the PDF file and click Open (Open). The PDF file will open in your browser.

Click on ADD IMAGE (Add Image). This is the second link at the top of the page.

Select an image and click on Open. The image will be inserted into the file.

• If you need to move the image, you can click and drag it to your desired location.

Resize the image by dragging the corners. When you drag any corner outward, the image will enlarge, and when you drag it inward, the size of the image will decrease.

Click on Apply (Apply). This button is located at the bottom right of the page. The image will be saved to the file, and a new version will be created for you to download.

Click on Download File (Download file). This option appears under the "Success!" message, near the top of the page. The updated PDF file will be downloaded to your computer.

• You may need to select a location to save the file and then click Save to download the file.

Open the PDF file you want to edit in Preview. Locate and double-click on the PDF file you wish to edit on your computer.

• If your default PDF reader is not Preview, right-click the file, hover over Open With, and select Preview.
• This method will allow you to paste images into the PDF content, but you won't be able to modify any existing text or formatting within the file.

Click on the File tab in the menu bar. This button is located at the top-left corner of the screen. The file options will appear in the dropdown menu.

Select Export from the File menu. This option allows you to convert the PDF into a different format.

• You need to export the PDF file to an image format in order to insert additional images.

Select PNG as the file format. Click on the dropdown menu at the bottom of the Export window and select PNG as the format option.

Click on the Save button in the Export window. A new file will be generated from the original PDF. The file will have the same name as the original, but the extension .PDF will be replaced with .PNG.

Click on the red x icon at the top-left corner to close the file. The original PDF file will remain intact and unchanged.

Use Preview to open the image you want to insert. Locate the image on your computer and double-click the file icon to open it in Preview.

• If the default image viewer is not Preview, right-click on the file, hover over Open With, and select Preview.

Press the keyboard shortcut ⌘ Command+A to select the entire image. A dotted outline will appear around the selected area.

• If you don't want to insert the whole image, you can click and drag the green dots on the dotted outline to select just the part of the image to copy to the PDF.

Press the keyboard shortcut ⌘ Command+C to copy the selected image area to the clipboard. Now you can paste the image into the converted PNG file.

Open the PNG export of the PDF in Preview. This is the "PNG" file you created when you converted the original PDF into an image format.

• Since Preview does not support pasting images into PDF files, make sure you are opening a file with the "PNG" extension rather than a "PDF."

Press ⌘ Command+V. The image you copied will now be pasted into the PNG file.

Click and drag the pasted image to reposition it. You can move the image anywhere on the PNG version of the PDF file.

Click and drag the green dots to adjust the image size. These green dots surround the edges of the pasted image. When you click and drag any of these dots, the image will resize, either larger or smaller.

• If you can't see the outline or green dots, click on the image to select it. The outline will automatically appear.

Click on the File tab in the menu bar. Once you're done editing, click the File menu in the top-left corner of your screen.

Click on Export as PDF in the File menu. This option lets you save your edited PNG file as a PDF.

Enter a name for the PDF file. Click the Save As field at the top of the dialog box and type the name for the new PDF file.

• Alternatively, you can keep the same name and overwrite the old PDF file with the newly edited version. To do so, click Save and choose Replace in the confirmation prompt that appears.

Click the Save button in the Export window. This button is located at the bottom-right corner of the dialog box. A new and separate PDF file will be generated from the edited PNG image and placed in the same location as the original PNG file.

Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat DC. Locate and double-click the PDF file you want to edit on your computer.

• If Acrobat is not your default PDF reader, right-click the file, select Open With, then click on Adobe Acrobat.

Click on the Tools menu at the top of the screen. A toolbar will appear.

Click on the Edit PDF option from the toolbar. This option allows you to add text and images to the PDF file.

Click on the Add Image option on the right side of the toolbar. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to select the image you wish to insert.

Select the image you want to insert. Click on the file name to choose the image.

Click on Open. The image will be imported into the file.

Click on the location where you want the image to appear. The image will be displayed in the file. To move it, simply click and drag the image to a new position.

Drag the corner handle of the image to adjust its size. Click and drag the image's corners outward or inward to zoom in or out on the image.

• You can also use the image editing tools in the panel on the right under the "Objects" heading. These options allow you to flip (Flip), rotate (Rotate), and crop (Crop) the image.

Press ⌘ Command+S (Mac) or Control+S (PC) to save. The image will be saved into a PDF file.
