Today, Mytour will guide you through the process of inserting symbols (like the copyright symbol or division sign) into your Microsoft Word document. This can be done on both Windows and Mac versions of Microsoft Word.
Steps
On Windows

Open the Microsoft Word document. Double-click on the Microsoft Word file, or launch Microsoft Word and select the file from the homepage. The most recent version of the file will open.

Place your cursor where you want to insert the symbol and click. This is the spot where the symbol will be inserted.

Click on the Insert tab at the top-left of the Word window.

Click on the Symbol option. This option is located to the right of the Insert tab. A dropdown menu will appear.

Click on More Symbols at the bottom of the dropdown menu. The Symbol window will appear.
- If the character you want to insert is listed in the dropdown menu, simply click it to insert immediately.

Select the symbol you want to insert. Just click on the symbol you wish to add. You can scroll through the available symbols using the up and down arrows ↑ or
↓ on the right side of the Symbol window.
- You can also click on the Special Characters tab at the top of the Symbol window to view more characters.

Click on the Insert button at the bottom of the Symbol window. The character you select will be inserted at the location of the cursor.
- You can repeat this process for as many characters as you like.

Click on the Close button at the bottom of the Symbol window. The symbols you just selected will remain in your Microsoft Word document.
On Mac

Open the Microsoft Word document. Double-click on the Microsoft Word file, or open Microsoft Word and select the file from the home page. The most recent version of the file will open.

Place your cursor where you want to insert the symbol and click. This is the spot where the symbol will be inserted.

Click the Insert tab located in the top left corner of the blue ribbon at the top of the Word window.
- Avoid clicking the Insert menu in the toolbar at the top of the Mac screen.

Click on Advanced Symbol (Advanced Characters). This option is located to the right of the Insert toolbar. The Symbol window will appear.

Select the symbol you wish to insert. Click on the symbol on the page to add it.
- You can also click on the Special Characters tab at the top of the Symbol window to explore additional symbols.

Click on the Insert button located in the bottom right corner of the Symbol window. The symbol will be inserted into your document.
- You can insert as many characters as you like.

Click on the Close button at the bottom of the Symbol window. The symbols you have selected will be placed into your Microsoft Word document.
Advice
- On Windows computers, each character in the "Character code" box corresponds to a specific code. You can enter this code into Word and press Alt+X to convert it into a character.
- Here are some keyboard shortcuts for common symbols:

- (c) or (C) - ©
- (tm) or (TM) - ™
- e or (E) - €

- The Mac version of Microsoft Word has a different character range compared to the Windows version.
