Using torrents is one of the most popular methods for sharing files online. You can find almost any game on torrent websites. The process of installing a game downloaded via torrent is slightly more complex than installing a purchased game, as you need to bypass the game’s copy protection. Make sure to carefully read the accompanying README file with the torrent file.
Steps
Download Torrent
Download and Install BitTorrent. This software enables you to download torrent files, which are a method of peer-to-peer file sharing. Torrent files are typically small in size but are linked to larger files on your hard drive that you wish to share with others. Popular torrent software includes:
- uTorrent
- BitTorrent
- Vuze
Search for the torrent file of the game you want to download. There are many online torrent websites where you can search, but we cannot list them all here. Make sure the torrent site you use has positive reviews, as this increases the chances of downloading a playable version without viruses.
- Try to find torrents with a high number of "seeders." These are users sharing the file, and the more people connected, the faster the download speed (up to your maximum connection speed).
Download and open the torrent file using software. Torrent files are very small in size and are usually downloaded in just a few seconds. This is because the torrent file doesn’t contain any game data. Instead, it allows you to connect with other users to download different parts of the game and then reassemble them once downloaded.
- Most torrent software is set up to automatically open the .torrent file. If the file does not open in your torrent software, you may need to select the newly installed software from the list of applications.

Install the Game
Download and install an extraction tool (if necessary). Many torrents you download are in RAR format (.rar). These are compressed files that require special software to extract. The most popular free software for opening these files is 7-Zip.
