It’s really frustrating when your AirPods fall out while you’re lost in your favorite song or working out at the gym. You can adjust them to ensure they stay in place, or use some waterproof tape to secure the earbuds. Additionally, there are many accessories, like earbud covers with hooks, that can help keep your AirPods from slipping out.
Steps
Rotate the AirPods

Wipe the AirPods speakers with a damp cloth. Use a damp cloth or clean tissue with a little cold water to wipe away any oil, dust, or debris around the speaker area. Make sure to clean any residue or dirt that may have accumulated on the earbuds.
- Oil and dirt can affect how well AirPods stay in your ears.
Note: Do not use wet wipes or cloths soaked in water, as water can damage your AirPods.

Place the AirPods in your ears with the stems facing downward. Gently insert the AirPods into your ears so that the speakers face your ear canal. Then, adjust the stems to point downward and align them along your head.
- Avoid pushing the AirPods too deep into the ear canal.

Rotate the stems so they protrude outward horizontally from your ears. Hold the stem of one AirPod and rotate it upward to secure the speaker in the ear canal. Continue rotating until the stem is pointing outward horizontally from your ear. Repeat the process with the other earbud.
- Inserting the AirPods into the ear canal helps keep them in place and prevents them from falling out.
Apply tape to your AirPods

Use waterproof tape. Waterproof tape has an adhesive side to stick onto the AirPods, while the non-adhesive side ensures the earbuds stay in place and don't slip while worn. You can purchase waterproof tape from local hardware or electronics stores or order it online.
- Avoid using regular tape or duct tape as these don’t provide a strong grip and may leave adhesive residue on the AirPods.

Use a hole punch to cut 4 small round pieces of tape. Take a standard office hole punch, insert a strip of tape, and press down to create 4 small, round pieces of tape. Set them aside.
- Clean the hole punch with a damp cloth to remove any leftover adhesive.

Place the round pieces on top and below the speaker holes of each earbud. For each earbud, use 2 pieces of round tape: one above the speaker hole and the other below (where the AirPods touch your ear). Repeat this process for the other earbud.
- These tape pieces will not interfere with putting the earbuds back into their case.
Tip: If you apply the tape incorrectly, you can quickly peel it off and reapply it to ensure it sticks securely to the AirPods.

Wear the earbuds with the stems pointing downward. Insert the AirPods into your ears with the speakers facing the ear canal. Adjust them to make sure the stems point downward and align along your jawline.
- The tape will enhance the grip, keeping the AirPods in place and preventing them from falling out.
Combine accessories
Use a case with a hook to secure the AirPods in your ears. Look for silicone cases with anti-fall hooks designed for AirPods, and wrap them to ensure the earbuds fit snugly and securely in your ears. Place the AirPods in your ear canal and hook the strap over your ear to prevent the earbuds from falling out.
- Visit accessory websites for iPhones or search online for AirPod cases with hooks.
- These cases with hooks are particularly useful for keeping the AirPods in place during physical activities such as running or cycling.

Use ear tips to provide a tighter fit. Apply silicone ear tips designed for AirPods to the speaker part of each earbud. Adjust them so that the speakers align with the holes in the ear tips to prevent sound distortion. When you wear the AirPods, the silicone tips will fit snugly in your ear canal, helping keep the earbuds in place without falling out easily.
- Silicone ear tips can be found at iPhone accessory stores or online.
- Since the silicone ear tips seal the ear canal, they help block outside noise and enhance the bass of the music.

Use foam ear tips to make the AirPods fit more securely. Purchase foam ear tips designed for AirPods and attach them to the speaker part of each earbud. Then, insert the AirPods into your ears with the body facing down. The foam’s thickness and texture will help keep the earbuds from falling out.
- You can find foam ear tips for AirPods online.
- Additionally, foam ear tips improve the bass quality of the AirPods.
Tip: If you can't find products specifically made for AirPods, you can use ear tips designed for other headphones (as long as they have a similar shape).
